How much money was needed again?

"The fundraiser will remain open until it raises approximately 2,300 in order to pay for the decapping and the applicable taxes. Thus the fundraiser is still running."

"Total Raised: $2000.10 USD".

Pretty big news, yellows8 only hacked 3ds died today (yes, this means progress stops):

irc:
Code:
<yellows8> hmm, my 3ds is failing to boot, screens won't turn on... the last
thing I did on this 3ds was try to use this service command, but that command
wasn't actually used since my socket code for using this service wasn't loading
the command data correctly. http://3dbrew.org/wiki/PTMSYSM:SetInfo

I sure as hell hope so. 4.5 systems should still be available in most places that don't have high sales (or used / ebay).

I was also beating around the idea of "hey yellows, i'll put a free v4.5 3ds in the mail today if you release that exploit".
He would never agree to that deal though.

... fundraiser? I mean the guy's shown progress, and a 3DS is cheap for a group.

Though what with the decapping thing, I don't think people have that much faith in general.

Maybe if Yellow himself came out and did the fundraiser....

Also, who knows, this may be fixable for all we know, but I doubt it. :(

I would be trusting of yellows8 with a fundraiser. He just has the temperament of somebody trustworthy. Scene cred, longevity, openness, etc. are all reasons.

As far as the 3ds being fixable, no. He can't even charge it. The hardware is totally fried according to him.

What if he salvaged the HDD and hooked it up to another 3DS?

..... HDD? The 3DS uses a NAND of Flash memory. Plus, its encrypted for that system, he would need to re encrypt it to a new 3ds with the system's specific key, if thats even possible.

Yes, but what IS fried? What is wrong in the system? Did something just give out in the SoC? Or something else? If its not charging, that could just be a power failure and/or broken charging circuit (which depending on where the break happened, is totally fixable). I know Neimod is a whiz with a soldering iron and electronics looking at his work, honestly, I would just like a little more info on what he thinks maybe wrong.

Don't you know that the 3ds uses a HDD? They're just really small. :P

But yeah, just to reiterate and clarify, yellows8's only hackable 3ds is dead and he needs a new one. I assume his PC's HDD has survived the 3ds's passing, although I'm sure it is quite grief-stricken.
