What do you think about this "hack"?

the 3ds can be hacked, its just a matter of when and how. as for extracting music, directly from the rom.. I do not think its possible sorry pyro.

Also, a room full of monkeys can eventually type out the works of Shakespeare.

i donated what i could early on, but without it going up anymore its a bit depressing. the wait is even more of a hassle, because for all we know it could already be hacked.
The 3DS has been hacked for a while.......... We just need a better exploit that can be used. You know, so everyone else can actually hack their system with some safety in knowing that they will still have their system hacked after practically any update. If a hardware vuln was found that could be accessed..... We would be living pretty >=)

But yeah, to run any sort of useful code, we need to document how the thing works. Yellows8 has done quite a bit of work with the graphics and system calls, but Neimod and Yellows8 aren't done yet. Knowing the system will help get things running too.

On system version below 5.etc, we have kernel access. If they REALLY wanted to, they could write a program to run ROMs, I'm pretty sure. Would they, no since they've been pretty negative about ROM loading.

Well after i got some sense from a book (A Guide to Exploitation Attacking the Core) I do understand why they do not plan to release that hack/exploit now. You should find a better exploit that is reliable to develop your code on. They have been documenting APIs for a long time now. I expect the result badly..
BTW, 3dsguy, Is such a question proper to ask?
Can i get/purchase the FPGA board from you/neimod (which used in ram dumping or even only ram sniffiering)? I looked at those photos trying to find some clues however recalled the programs inside the chip is not covered. I'm so sorry but too longing to (try to) detect those APIs, as you do.

Ahh, I hope they release this soon.
Stalling isn't gonna do anything but enjoy the hack themselves.
Lol, seriously? You can't do crap with the exploit jiehfing, especially without libs. They aren't going to release this. If they change their minds, then it wount be for a while. They aren't stalling, they're keeping as many options open as possible. Save exploit still hasn't been patched, and for all we know, they may have some tricks that they still can do with that limited access (possibly another exploit within Userland). This would allow future documentation of newer firmware features, especially if there is new major changes coming with the possible miiverse update. Your impatience isn't appreciated. Sure, I bet what they do is pretty fun, but it's probably out of the scope of what almost any person on this forum can do.

Ahh, kk.
Sorry for my impatience.

Total Raised: $1082.81 USD for 3DS Decapping...... WTH?!
Oh yeah. Jl12 is very busy these days, so that may be a long time waiting for that change.
I can still recall it took me about one month to see that increased (after i donated a few).
Even we collected enough $ we would have to wait for him to get those fund.
Well so be patient, or donate yourself, or hack yourself..
At least learning how to hack would be a good way to wait for them.

Your right! :)

I guess I could learn how to hack, however I would not attempt it. 1) Because I fear i would mess up my system. 2) i did not get the warranty for it, so i would be completely boned.

I think a mod should close this tread as it is going absolutely no where. At this point in time the 3DS will NEVER NEVER NEVER be hacked. Its been little over 2 years and nothing has been done except for a "Hello World" type of thing. With Nintendo just patching the little only exploites that were used, means that they have just created the ultimate anti-hackable system. People just buy the games or don't by them.

Playstation 3 says hi.

the mod would close this thread if it was getting off topic, i believe thats one of the reasons why they lock topics. this one however is staying quite on track, and i say leave it open. you never know what will happen in the future, and its good to see diffrent peoples thoughts on the matter.

I feel like you're not even thinking about this logically.

So i see on 3DSBrew they have a little warning that says: "Latest safe firmware is 4.5.0-10, updating to 5.0.0-11 or later is not recommended!"
Honestly, that exclamation mark at the end of there is what's scaring me...

So anyone have any idea what this means? Does it means that if i want 3ds kernel access ill have to hold off on the newest updates? My 3ds is still on 4.3.0-10 but i was just about looking to update my 3ds to access the eshop too. :/

Any suggestions on what i should do? Patiently wait so that I'm guaranteed a kernel hacked 3ds or Just update and hope 5.0+ firmwares get its own exploit...

They have told us multiple times for months that they will NOT be releasing the kernel-mode hack.
