What do you think about this "hack"?

I would donate but they don't accept paypal.
It's because Paypal froze their donating system-but skrill is basically the same thing.
Maybe this is a dumb question, but I'm looking to get a DSTwo for my 3DS, but do you think it will be worth it to wait for the hack to see if I need a new card or in all likely hood would any hack work through the DSTwo?
The new hack will work without a card-it'll use the sd card in 3DS mode. Also, another big reason for the delay is because the team doesn't want it to be used for piracy. So, when it's initially released-only homebrew will work. Even that could take months. Might as well get a DSTWO.

EDIT: A new flashcart will NOT work with this exploit. We still can't sign off gamecarts-this is only an exploit. Maybe through custom code-but I doubt flashcards will be used this time. It'll probably be more like the PSP.

You'll need a game card (but we don't know which game). The DSTwo is in DS mode and it's almost sure that it doesn't support the 3DS mode.

The DSTwo is just for the DS-Mode. The new Exploit is used via a Savegame-Hack which belongs to a 3DS Cardridge.

If you want to play your DS-Backups you'll need an DSTwo. We won't see another card for the 3DS-Mode or even any hack through the DSTwo. So it's up to you.

The new Hack in 3DS-Mode is software-based ;)

@Roguezz

I've not followed the entire progress they've made. So they found a way for a Savegame-Exploit to get their own code running. They used ROP to execute their code on the RAM => privilege escalation to gain Kernel Access.

Are they able to dump the entire Kernel ? Just wondering if theres any way to create and load a custom Kernel one day :)

By the way, thanks Roguezz for the Thread ;)

It would be great to have the last update in topic name, so you don't even have to open it to know if there are updates or not. :)

No problem and no, they've only gained control of the kernel. I doubt they'll ever be able to load a custom kernel. Maybe if they got a hold on the arm9 security core and could make CFW, they might be able to update kernels as well.

"Did you not read the posts directly above before posting?! Idiot."

This is exactly why I never come here, and the exact reason why the exploit will be postponed. People love to shit on Santa here. It's absolutely ridiculous and disrespectful.

Not quite, if the rumor is true that the 3ds uses a modified c++ then homebrew should come out decently fast.
No, the 3DS does not "use" a modified C++. It runs binary code. Compiled binary code. C++ is never rarely [see edit below] run by anything. A compiler will compile C++ code into binary code. That code will then be run. It could also be written in other language. C/C++ is usually the language used by homebrew SDKs, but code could theoretically be written in any language. One reason for using C/C++ is that there are C/C++ compilers for most (if not all) processor architectures. The 3DS will use standard byte code for it's processor. A compiler for that processor architecture (i.e. ARM) should be able to compile compatible code written in standard C++ (or C).

EDIT: There is a C++ interpreter actually: http://root.cern.ch/drupal/content/cling, so C++ code can be "run". But I'm fairly sure the 3DS doesn't use something like that.

I can't even edit the thread's name. Lol.

It's a semi-valid point, but not PayPal specific. I can't donate to the fundraiser because Skrill can't accept anything from Illinois. Perhaps also accepting via Dwolla or another payment system isn't a bad idea?
