Gateway announced their 9.2 support way before smea released ninjhax..
Only 1 exploit was found to be shared out of 3 between ninjhax and gateway go. So I don't believe smea had anything to do with the gateway go exploit. Exploits get discovered independently all the time, and so far Gateway has been no. 1 at that

At least have some humility/modesty and admit you were wrong. Judging by your avatar you won't. I am gateway all the way but keep it real. You are a troll or fanboy who i dare say led many to buy a n3ds with your confident egocentric gateway stance. Sky was then, is now, and is in the future the only solution for above 9.2. You and your opinions/knowledge lol, have become a joke. do you swallow too or spit for gateway, i'd say you gargle and then swallow, no-all-fuck-all......

I read somewhere on this forum that smealum sold GW the exploit

Thats right, he did. We all do what we want in life. But take pride in what you do, what you can do and if you profit thats your business. Don't lie before and after the fact and use piracy as a scapegoat. He's a kid who sold out. Most would do that in this day and age (would you in his shoes), but lets not deceive and bullshit. Thats when you become an asshole in peoples view and rightly so.....

Anw since GW uses the same stage 2 as ninjhax which I assume lets you get to any applet you want, what applet they used? Or something else?

With this release coupled with gateway ultra there will be a softmod soon, i wonder if then the fanboys of gateway will gently admit their naivety and fanboy blind sidedness. A belief or opinion holds the mind and keeps it from other perspectives including the truth. I wonder how many come clean, hide for a while or just arrogantly deny, but still drop gateway for the free solution....

Why would this lead to a "softmod"? Back in the 4.x time we didn't get anything until someone steals a half-working solution.
Are we just gonna hope something will get stolen again this time? Does such a thing even exist?

Look, who gives a shit about the Gateway or what it can do? So, it can load ROM "backups" big deal. Don't like what Smea did or who he is? Tough. Keep your bashing comments to yourself.

Why are people so hellbent to be so opposing to an eventual softmod? Is it a crime for there to be free hacks on the 3DS? Ironic that smealum sold an exploit to a team that promotes piracy by manufacturing flashcards to run ROM dumps. Something doesn't add up here.

And for the record, people need to keep the butthurt out of these threads.

Nice source.

No shit. Smealum supposedly sold the exploit (no proof of that, as I am aware) and yet people on here are saying that he did sell it, they've no proof either. Which means that if he did sell it, he sold it to a company, Gateway, which enables piracy, something Smea supposedly is against. So, it doesn't add up.

Friends, can't we just go back to enjoying our games or programming? This isn't productive.

My only (slight) gripe is that this isn't really open source as much as it's a writeup on how he did it. Sure, it has some nice code samples. but it doesn't explain a lot of things, and doesn't provide sources on things. Just as an example, we still have no idea what really lies behind the hb service, so we have no idea how 3dsx loading is done at all, and we have no idea how remapping memory is handled (I'm assuming it's SVC 0x70 but I really don't know much outside of that and the description on 3DBrew isn't very descriptive with addr1 and addr2), and in particular I still have no idea how smea is invalidating that darn icache.

If we maybe had source code on the hb service itself (the thing which the rohax actually sets up), it would be possible to make a .CIA loader for .3dsx homebrew or something, complete with (maybe) a way to adjust those memory mapping calls for .CIAs

Now that the cats out of the bag, wouldn't it just be better for everyone if the focus is put on trying to get as much access to the 3DS hardware as possible?

It is a double edged sword. I don't think you can have homebrew without also having piracy to an extent. Not on a closed console anyway. One begets the other eventually, yet I should imagine that no-one wants to develop homebrew on a limited device either. Especially now that we have Android and GCWs, and the legacy of PSP/Vitas in PSP mode on hand that's much easier to work with and better documented. Even arguably DS homebrew via DSTWO is a viable alternative.

Yeah, good luck with that. The code execution ship has long since sailed and I doubt anyone's even going to bother looking for new holes at least until the NA N3DS comes out, if even then.

I read, pondering the exploit that I stated Smea and I were talking about earlier in the thread.

Eumh no.

Despite whatever everyone is saying, from what he wrote, Smea is one intelligent bastard.

The guy deserves a LOT of credit for what he did. I personally don't care if its for "the scene" because admit it, saying you're "for the scene" is just to fill your own, fat belly, nothing more. 'No one' cares about "a scene" , just themselves.

If you weren't, you'd realize the work put into this and understand what can be achieved with hard work.

*sigh*
