Next 2D Mario Platformer?

What do you think it will be? In reality, it will probably be New Super Mario Bros. 3, but I hope they ditch the NSMB series and make a better game with a better name (Hey, that rhymes ).

Hopefully Mario Maker is the last 2D Mario, but I doubt that'll be the case.
I'd like to see them stray away from the classic 2D Mario formula and make something a little different, as the NSMB series has gotten stale and repetitive and there isn't much they can do to make new entries interesting unless they stray away from the formula.

NSMB is ridiculously easy. Not a single level in any of the games are difficult. It's kinda sad. The little hover-twirl thing is probably the cause of that. It lets you just skip over everything.

Super Mario Maker is the last 2D Mario there needs to be honestly. If they just keep feeding that game with DLC it'll never be topped. It's already crazy fun and that's just with a bunch of random shitty maps people made while learning the editor.

It might be just me, but I feel like Mario games nowadays are super easy compared to before. I was just playing Super Mario 3D Land (I know it's not a platformer) and I couldn't help but notice how easy the game was. You'd think star coins would give the game more replay value, but to me the coins were hidden so painstakingly in plain site I didn't have to go back to previous levels to find them. I didn't even have to worry about game overs because I had over 100+ just by going through the levels. I felt the same about NSMB2, it felt a lot easier than the first due to the massive amounts of coins and the star coins placement didn't take as much thinking to obtain. I revisted some of the old Mario games recently thanks to mGBA and I really do think they were more challenging.

I think the worse thing is the golden-leaf power that makes you invincible to enemies; it takes away the satisfaction of beating a level. I really do miss the old days of platforming and I think the genre as a whole is becoming a dying art.
