Hacking New Wii's - Can I play backup's on them?

Hello. I was softmodding my friend's Wii and we installed HBC and everything worked fine. But I don't have a Wii yet, but I want to buy one soon, like on thursday when I'm off. But I read on a site that new Wii's will not be able to read backup DVD's! This is not good, because the highest SD card I have is a 4GB (too small for a DVD iso) and I have no external hard drive. Is there any patch or way around this?

thats actually where I read it.

In the "After Modding" section:

QUOTEIf you have a very new Wii & it fails to run DVD backups, you may have a drive with the new D3-2 chipset. They are incapable of reading dvd's of any sort. It can still play games via USB loaders though.
