So if somebody wanted to make this permanent they could drill I hole into the Wii and use a nice black rim to make it look neat and have the cable sticking out.

Hmm seems a lot of hassle but hey it will improve hopefully!

Any pic of the finished cable? (just for reference for those who want to try making it)

ITs my parallel port , my friend just got it running

Yes it works fine, detect when you insert the backup and patched the fw on the fly

But yup, you gotta use a capacitator on the 4 pad or else you will only get out of sync messages

I get the following errors when I run dvdtool:

cn302_poke_byte out of sync
cn302_peek_byte out of sync
cn302_write_byte out of sync
cn302_read_byte out of sync

It's like a list of them, because it keeps attempting to do whatever it's supposed to.

any idea what to do?

sounds like what Pacote said about needing to install a capacitor at pin 4...

well, once you've installed the cable, and run the program, can you disconnect the cable, and continue to run iso's?

no u have to have the pc connected as well as having program open.
Oh god, CAN'T YOU READ?!

You connect your Wii's DVD drive to your PC, flash it's firmware with this utility and put it back in your Wii, presumably forever. Now, which part is hard to understand?

Can a moderator delete unnecessary posts? Thanks.

@MaHe: In answer to your question about deleting unnecessary posts, I think your post above should be the first candidate to be deleted - you talk a load of crap and are creating mis-information. Maybe you should learn to "READ", as I see nothing in the NFO that even suggested half the stuff you claimed it would do.

also as for the diodes, i haven't done this for ages so I was wondering about the diodes i put in, are they the right way (given that I don't need one of them)

Been following this for a while now and it seems like my kind of mod, thanks for sharing Pacote and thanks to all that went and tested it.

@jaxxster this is a couple of wires and basic components (hell I can make a small capacitor with kitchen materials) versus some slightly more complex stuff (PICs and PIC programming is fairly high level stuff compared to this). Hopefully it will work with a USB to parallel adaptor as my new machine seems to lack a port.

erm..that looks wrong...the line part is where the CATHODE is which is '+'. Current flows from the Anode to the Cathode or from the - to the +.
so something like this

WII - ------I>|----- + PC (Parallel Port)

i might be wrong, someone verify?

Hmm... can someone pls post a video tut of this? feeling semi-reluctant. How much soldering is done to the Wii itself? and (ULTRA DUMB QUESTION) instead of using solder, can you use electrical tape to tape a stripped end of wire to the contact (if there's enough room, or is there definately not enough room?) I haven't opened it up yet. Now if there's ever going to be a firmware flasher, i think it'd be via weird cable like this.

It just does the same formula south park can press buttons without going overboard
