Hahah, awesome!

But god, I effin hate maxconsole, I remember before I found GBATEMP I used to go there and tried to buy a G6lite form Divineo... said it was in stock and would ship in 7 days. 1 month later I email to ask where my g6 is and they say they haven't gotten the shipment in yet. I ask for a refund, they say it will take 2 weeks. Bull.

I don't know if CycloWiz has been tested with same video region imports but I know Wiinja hasn't. The first Japanese Wii release only came out a few days ago. I know there are German releases but I doubt if either team tested them on a UK PAL console. I talked to the Ninja Team today and they are going to run some test with their chip soon.

This is ridiculous how many unannounced chips are going to to out in the same exact time period that nobody has ever heard of till now?, and i like i said before they all play more than one region other than us as japan is ntsc as well so that's nothing new. Now more importantly which chips are the better buy is what i wanna know, but i guess everyone will find out this week when someone actually buys one then tests it.

P.S i wonder if it's really time for a wii mod chip i mean there aren't any games out to really make use of this stuff, so maybe they should be perfecting one till something comes out that's a must buy.

Honestly, I think I am going to skip this one like I have the previous ones. Within the past week or 2 there have been three chips that have come out; each being better than the last. I remeber someone posting very inconspicuously that by the end of Feb there would be 6 chips altogether to choose from. This was of course posted when the Wiinja was released. Then I just thought w/e but now it seems like his words are becoming more and more true. So according to him, 3 more to go. Who knows, maybe the next one will play the pal games/ supports pal video rendering (like I care) or might be upgradable via cable instead of disc or maybe even support Wii homebrew but thats going way too far. Maybe, just maybe, the last one will be external!!! Anyway, I'll wait a couple more months. Thanx.

-See Ya!!!

Quick question re: backups. Can my computer's DVD-RW drive read and backup my Wii games or do I need special hardware/software to do this beyond normal DVD burning software?

You need a very specific DVD drive (LG brand) to dump Wii games and it can take approx 20-50 hours. Burning them isn't an issue.
Actually the public tool has gotten it down to around 9 hours.
Private methods are supposedly able to dump in 2-3.

I made a backup of a GC disc yesterday

(took 2 hours and 40 minutes - a little less than one third of a Wii disc in size)
How did it take you that long to make a backup of your GC games? I have a Viper Extreme and I dumped it using the little USB thing that you plug into the bottom of the GC and then plugged the cable into my PC. And then I played a few songs on Guitar Heroes 2 to pass the time and after about 15 minutes (or 4 songs on GH2) I have made a back-up.

On topic, I wonder which of the following chip will be classed as the new M3/Supercard? More to the point, I'm really, really hoping that a there will be a chance that there is a firmware for the chip that will not only allow imports to be played, but also buy VC games from other regions.... or just port a SNES emulator over.

I'll answer for him. He used the dumper method using a particular LG drive on his computer. That also works for GC disks you know.

Don't know about which will be the M3 of the Wii, but I don't think any of these chips will do that with VC games, as I'm pretty sure these are just Drive chips (maybe the WiiKey goes to the mobo too? We don't know yet). A Drive chip will have nothing to do with the software end of the Wii, which is where the VC games are all dealt with. I wouldn't hold your breath.

Same thing with SNES emulator. We need to figure out how to run homebrew first, and we've got a ways to go for that yet I expect.

It's apparently very simple to make, the more chips the better. Competition will drive the prices down.
BTW, am I the only one who thinks the upgradability on this thing might be bad? What if Nintendo could make a disc that "upgrades" and breaks the chip?

At the risk of sounding incredibly stupid. This post is worded rather oddly. It SOUNDS like you are saying they should be perfecting a chip until a game that is worth buying comes out. If it were truly worth buying, why would you need a chip? Now maybe you meant until a chip is a must buy, but it sounded like you were talking about a game. Personally if I think a game is worth buying, I buy it.

i want to know if we can use it on a pal system anybody know. everybody that has asked did not get a reply anybodu know

From what I have read it will work on a PAL system, but it will only play Wii game backups that are PAL.

The only thing it suggests that will be region free on a PAL system is the playing of GameCube backups.

well this is great news for me. as i now live in japan for well.. the rest of my life.. it would be great to get hold of english games that don't come out here in japan and also games like Zelda that are so heavy in story that i woud rather play them in English. I have not got myself a Wii yet because of language issues with games like Zelda and the only other game i want is wii sports. so all this mod chip news is getting me very excited. i will be buying a wii in the coming months i can see it!
