I was clicking around and it turns out I am behind the times again as much of this happened in mid July.

VGMtrans, one of more important programs in DS SDAT sound hacking though it has no small capability in several other systems/formats, has been taken up by loveemu (with the blessing of the original author, a person I now know to be called Mike) and had the source stuck up on github and taken to editing it a bit, as well as expanding the capabilities some time was also seemingly spent making it a tiny bit more stable (something I am sure most users of the program can get behind). I do not know how many of you know about loveemu but I will leave it at sound hacking for the SNES, GBA and DS owes far more than a passing nod to them ( http://code.google.com/p/loveemu/ and http://loveemu.yh.land.to/ if you want to see what goes).

loveemu blog post (loveemu is Japanese but the first part of the post is in English).

The other posts around there deal with what goes, how to build and some other stuff http://d.hatena.ne.jp/loveemu/

I did not see any binaries there and the readme/blog posts scared me off trying my hand at compiling it but it is an important development. You can get the 2009 vintage ones (and source if you wanted it, though apparently the source given to loveemu was newer than that though not released) from filetrip http://filetrip.net/nds-downloads/utilities/download-vgmtrans-92909-f27960.html

So there's finally been some work upon VGMTrans. I hope I can find a way to build this. I'd like to try this.

Edit: Found some binaries here: https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=ff8e61792c00fa5a&id=FF8E61792C00FA5A!112

So far, I've been able to open a lot of files. I've been able to open:
-SNES roms (FFIII and Sutte Hakkun work, but it only recognises samples so far, no sequences)
-N64 Roms (Mario Kart and Super Mario 64 only recognises samples)
-GBA roms (It recognises sequences and samples, but doesn't play them together, and it only works with the MP2000 engine)
-PS1 PSF files (Some work, some don't. It's hit-and-miss. It opens a lot more files than before though)
    -PS2 PSF2 files (Like PS1, hit-and-miss)
    -NDS roms
    -NDS 2SF rips

I really like that it now can export to DLS and SF2 though. And the expanded file format support is much welcomed. I'm looking forward to future builds of this.
