I was clicking around and it turns out I am behind the times again as much of this happened in mid July.
VGMtrans, one of more important programs in DS SDAT sound hacking though it has no small capability in several other systems/formats, has been taken up by loveemu (with the blessing of the original author, a person I now know to be called Mike) and had the source stuck up on github and taken to editing it a bit, as well as expanding the capabilities some time was also seemingly spent making it a tiny bit more stable (something I am sure most users of the program can get behind). I do not know how many of you know about loveemu but I will leave it at sound hacking for the SNES, GBA and DS owes far more than a passing nod to them ( http://code.google.com/p/loveemu/ and http://loveemu.yh.land.to/ if you want to see what goes).
loveemu blog post (loveemu is Japanese but the first part of the post is in English).

The other posts around there deal with what goes, how to build and some other stuff http://d.hatena.ne.jp/loveemu/
New github
https://github.com/vgmtrans/vgmtrans
I did not see any binaries there and the readme/blog posts scared me off trying my hand at compiling it but it is an important development. You can get the 2009 vintage ones (and source if you wanted it, though apparently the source given to loveemu was newer than that though not released) from filetrip http://filetrip.net/nds-downloads/utilities/download-vgmtrans-92909-f27960.html
