Literally just bought a NSW 2nd hand.
Reason?
I want to play pirated games.

I have a 256 gb sd card for the use of back up roms.

Is it possible to load cfw through an sd card? All I see is people haxxing with paper clips and micro usb ports.
Is that the way to go? I'm not a technician and will probably mess up somehow and end up setting the house on fire.

P.S. looking forward to june 15th, everyone is mentioning it... No idea what'll happen, but sounds cool so far.

1. Read the FAQ

2. Read the guides in the tutorials subforum

3. If you still don't have a answer use the search function, and google.

Everything you can do is very well documented, and the current methods are easy to use. CFW / HB is however still in its infancy, so there is a lot of broken stuff.

The only way to do exploitation that gets you enough privilege to run CFW is through FG, which requires the whole USB/paperclip thing. It's shorting a pin that makes a "secret" button held, and you boot with volume up and it puts the Switch in a recovery mode that's exploitable. So if you want piracy, you need to be able to get into that special recovery mode, your best bet would be to buy the Team Xecuter modchip, it'll have a plastic bit that'll short the pin out for you and a USB part that'll send the CFW to the Switch so you can get piracy. The public CFW that's going to be releasing for free will not be piracy enabled.

can you give a link to that :D ?
Stickies.

PLEASE use a search function next time. I Google'd "Nintendo Switch hacks" and found everything you were asking about within the first few search results.

I see what @dpad_5678 meant now.

...kill me.

Backup loaders don't publicly exist yet, the paperclip shit is relevant, be patient.

Dude, seriously. You don't just blatantly announce that you want to pirate games, and expect the community to spoonfeed info that is readily available via a simple search.

  1. While piracy talk is tolerated here, no actual instructions to or links to rom or piracy will be found here. Now, for those looking to play backed up copies of games they own... keep reading.
  2. CFW is going to be a file you put on the SD card, yes, but in order to launch that file you need to do a few things. The backbone of the hacking scene right now is booting your Switch into what's called RCM mode. To do this, you need to ground pin number 10 on the right side of the Switch where the JoyCon slides in, then power it on while holding the Vol+ button. That's what these paperclips, wires, and 'jigs' accomplish for us. It will be needed.
  3. After getting it in RCM mode, you need to execute a payload to get the CFW started. This is done through the USB-C port on the Switch. What you use to deliver the payload can vary, it can be a computer, an Android phone, Raspberry Pi, or a dongle. Internal mod chips are also in development. You would need to do this each and every time you restart or power off the Switch.
  4. Currently there's no actual CFW or backup loaders out, but a development team is working on an open sourced CFW called Atmosphere while a company is working on a closed source backup loader, which is to be released on June 15th. Their product will come with a jig for shorting pin 10 and a dongle for jumpstarting the CFW.
