Hey all. after looking through these forums and various others i find myself with a few questions someone an helpfully hope with before i make any moves.

I see some places say things like i lose the browsers or soundmixer(or something i forget) if i upgrade to 11.0 and use that to get cfw. Im currently on 10.6 and would prefer not to have to purchase a flash cart. Should i go rent a game to update to 11.0 and follow hacks.guide and if i do that am i missing out on anything by following a different method? Is there a way to upgrade without a game(like downloading it to the sd or something)?

I already have my modded switch for emu so all im looking for is the ability to play ds/3ds games. no need for browser if thats something that matters. Just want to make sure i dont make more trouble for myself then i need to.

sorry if this is covered elsewhere i found lots of conflicting info and with relavent post going back as far as 2017 i just wanted to make sure what im doing it the most up to date.

Howdy, I'm not the most technically savvy person here but I've been through the 3DS mod process several times.

The preferred entrypoints and CFW have changed several times even since 2017 so it follows that you'd find conflicting info. However, Plailect's guide at 3ds.hacks.guide has always had the most up-to-date info and methods. I'd suggest reading through it a couple times before making the jump, as it involves working with a few different exploits in conjunction.

IIRC, the current preferred method involves Steel Diver, which is a free-to-start game you can download from the eShop.

Your 3DS browser and the Sound app will not be affected. Previously, both apps had simple-to-use exploits that allowed for homebrew, but Nintendo has patched them.

not on 10.6 has it been patched. unless they game cart updated. they can use soundhax to cfw their console

You are safe to update your console if you see fit new hacking methods will not restrict nor reduce your consoles functionality at all but what can and will affect functionality is a update via game cards just use wifi to update ... that being said it is simplest to install cfw if you can utilize soundhax as a cfw install point ... anywho here is the link you need ... https://3ds.hacks.guide/

oh excellent. following the guide brought me to where it tells me to upgrade to 11.0 and has a link to flash cart update guide with a list of upgrades on gamecarts. maybe i just need to read ahead in the guide. Maybe i can finish doing this tonight after all. Im gonna keep looking into it. Thanks

trying to download soundhax from the website provided did not work. tried multiple browsers on two different pcs. Going to just give updating via web a shot. thanks all
