Hello!

I have a problem. New Super Mario Bros. Wii has always worked fine for me. I used to play it a lot using CFG Loader back when it came out. But now, a long time later, with plenty of new versions of CFG and CIOS released (I have 69 release version right now), it doesn't seem to work anymore.

This is what happens. There's a 50/50 chance that the game will crash on the first stage in the game. What happens is that the music stops, and then, most of the times (but not always!) the controllers lose connection completely, and cannot be brought back. If they still work but the music has stopped, the game will crash completely, when I finish the level.

Some info:
Using CIOS 249 (latest Waninkoko revision with the recommended base)
Using CIOS 222 (5.1 with base 38) (I have tried both 222 and 249, same problem)
Using CFG Loader v69 release
Using an external 2.5" USB hard drive
Using a previously functional WBFS file of NSMB Wii
Release day Wii with system menu 4.2

I have been searching around but haven't found anyone with my problem. Am I screwed?

First, update to the d2x6-cIOS, much better than r21 from Waninkoko, more fixes, more features.

Also, like aminemaster said, sounds like the AP of the game isn't patched by the loader (which it should do by default). Load up your config.txt with the Configurator (included in the complete package from the CFG-Thread) and check if the NSMBW-Patch is enabled (in the Global Options 4-Tab).

(Oh, and I would always recommend CFG-Loader, because it's more active, and has the latest breakthroughs, like the block IOS-Reload, first. Also, GX still hasn't earned my trust in stability, though it's been completely rewritten. But that's just a side-note.)

I only have the patched version so I can't say if the cfg patch is the problem. The patched works fine for me, tried it now. You should try an older cfg version to test if it's a patch or a filesystem issue.

I updated to the latest d2x cios, but that didn't solve the problem.

I also checked the configurator, and it only has the option to disable the NSMBW AP. So I would assume that it is on, by default.

I also tried an alternate DOL that I found online. No difference.

The hard drive has an NTFS file system.

Set it to look for patches(.wip) and copy the following 3 where CFG wants them:
SMNJ.wip, SMNE.wip and SMNP.wip

They should be provided with the CFG package.

Another option would be to patch the BCA data of the game into the .iso where the cIOS expects it. Sorry i can't help you with that, it's the only game using BCA protection and the above patch just works fine.

The alternative dol method is like patched ISO, so it should work fine... I also have a NTFS drive, maybe a bad dump? You should check your drive for errors and re-install the game.

Try what FIX94 suggested, I also run this game with a NTFS drive and CFG with no issues
