well i follow this closely as wiimiidia is fake, i bet dciso will say he quit because one of these reasons:
of bitching
hdd crash
no time
geexbox does/will do the job

I mean come on he was releasing it a few weeks ago and at this stage he can only play an mp3! yeah right

I don`t know... In the first video of the homebrew channel the wii miidia was included... So the folks behind the homebrew channel believe in the miidia player I guess. Why should they show it in their own software if not...

The homebrew channel is really a great application and if the guys behind it trust the wii miidia guy I`ll do so as well till it is released or cancelled...

But this Geexbox application is pretty interesting too. But it has still a long way to go till it is at a state in which I would use it....

Haha, you're an idiot! I'm sorry, but that's just ignorant. He already said his Media Player was exactly the same as this one, as it was built on the Xbox Media Player. However, it was too unstable and extremely hard to work on. SO, he's decided to make it from the ground up.
Ever tried making your own Media Player just with code? Didn't think so mate.
So as of this point he's managed to code his own MP3 player, which is an achievement anyway. And as for not playing video, it's not because he's lazy, he's still in the middle of making it you fool.
And if he does end up with no time, which may happen considering it's such a large project, I don't blame him. This is difficult stuff, and all he's got for it is a bunch of whiners.
Shut your yap and actually wait. After all, you can consider this what WiiMiidia would have been if he actually released it, you think you'd have liked that after all the hype he's got? Nup.

Point is, I'm tired of people saying it's fake. He's told you why he didn't release it, so why shouldn't you believe him?

Well there is no point in arguing about wii miidia here in a new media application's topic. First let's get this geexbox up and running.

Edit: Nevermind, Backing up, Formatting the sd card, copying files back helped. Now it displays the menu.

After the menu displays pressing -> followed by enter opens a sub menu or if you are on a file it launches that. For all the keypresses you need to press enter after entering the key. It plays my visa roster test video. Well I see lots of features here, and they work

Of course there are bugs but this application is really promising something of a media center on the wii.

People can be hostile everyone is entitles to their own opinions. Most of these people crying have not been around the scene that long. Those who have been here for a long time ESPECIALY during the Dreamcast days know what I have done for that scene and can do in general. I just simply wished the GeeXbox team the best of luck and offered them what I had done to save them some time because the way they are going about it is the way I tried to go about it the 1st time to save time and failed.

Anyone getting any further than a black screen with this?
With a composite connection to crt tv I got a black screen.

I have a NTSC WII, and I'm using the cable supplied with the WII. At first I had the same black screen problem, then reading again the intructions I noticed that my SD card was formatted with FAT and not FAT32. I formatted the card to FAT32 and now I can see the menu. Seems that the black screen problem is because the SD card is not formatted with FAT32.

To move through the menu you should press the up or down arrow key and then press ENTER. If you want to access an option of the menu then you should press right arrow key and the press enter.

Tested with a Xvid file, and two RMVB files, all worked fine.

I found one... but not know how to load up...

What's with people and Wii playing dvd. FFS a DVD burner cost $15 over here and even less if you go second hand. MOST computer should have a DVD rom anyway and if you want to risk bricking your $400 Wii..then be my guest.

P.S. if you spend like $200 you can get a popcorn hour or an xbox xbmc which will do way better as a streamer than a wii will ever be....so the choice is urs

just tried this and works fine..tried files off sd card and usb stick. tried 2 large xvid files and they work fine, no stuttering/sound issues. Gui could do with some work,as it doesnt look all that good, menu slection is bit rough...no disrespect to author.

Yeah if wifi isn't fast enough i have the direct LAN connector which should be more than fast enough (connect directly to router).

But right now i have to use Wiideo and put up with very low quality flash..

can't wait for wifi to work!!

Well the player is really good, I even customised the menu and font, too bad menu doesn't show Turkish characters but it has good subtitle support, you can choose the subtitle, size it etc. Long time missing feature, you can select the audio and subtitle from the mkv container! Though it plays h264 videos a bit slow. Bluetooth feature working out of the box. Though it is slow

It's nice now we have alternatives, mplayerwii supports wifi and has shoutcast streaming working right... these players are all filling the gaps of each other

Now the mfe port is no option. The only drawback of Geexbox is it loads slow and probably eats more resources out of the wii in terms of both cpu and memory. On the other hand it's and will be a full fledged, fully customizable media player for wii.

not trying to launch a brand war, but ps3 doesn't support .srt format, that's a big let down for any non english speaker watching series =).

I suppose mplayer on wii does.
