New 'Mafia' game in development

The Mafia video game franchise is celebrating its 20th Anniversary, and General Manager Roman Hladík and Head of Production and Media Director Tomáš Hřebíček from studio Hangar 13 gave an interview looking back at the series' development. As for what's next for the series, Hladík confirmed that work has started on an "all-new Mafia project".

"While it's a few years away and we can't share anything more right now, we're really excited to keep working on this beloved franchise and to entertain our players with new stories," Hladík added in the interview.

You can read the interview in its integrity in the source link below.

The first two were spectacular, but the third.. yikes.

Hopefully Mafia IV is of the same caliber as Mafia I and II.

Anyway, the original Mafia PC port will be free on Steam from September 1 to 5. I'll gladly take this over the third one.

Coincidentally I was looking into this the other day. Rumour is, Mafia 4 is going to be more linear, rather than and open world sandbox.

Mafia 3 was absolute total garbage. 1 and 2 were pretty good. Given the day and age, they'll try to make Mafia 4 as woke as possible, and it will be even a bigger pile of shit than 3 was.

This series is somewhat stuck in the past.. they need to find some new shtick to separate from the competition, and to keep things interesting. And i mean that in the sense, that if they just keep coming back to & using the same setting, time period etc. it'll get old fast.

I disagree with you here. If it's one thing I think the Mafia series has done right it's that they DO mix things up, and try to separate from competition.
Mafia 1 plays out in the 30's, M2 is in the 50's and M3 is in the 70's(?), and there's no other similar game that plays out in those time-periods, is there? I can't think of another game I've played where I can drive around in cars from the 30/50's and listen to music from the same time.

I hope M4 goes back to it roots, and goes back to the 30's. I love the atmosphere, cars, music, guns and crime-stories from that time. I can still remember playing the first Mafia game, and how much I loved the world it's in. The only bad thing about M1 is that there's little to nothing to do in the city beside playing the main story.

Well to be honest apart from the story, characters, setting etc. Which are the main attraction about the series.. gameplay-wise it's not that spectacular, not saying the shooting or driving sucks in those games, but without those essential elements that i mentioned, people wouldn't be interested in it nearly as much..

Actually, M1 was mid-30's to early-40's. M2 was late 30's to mid or late 40's. M3 was early 60's.
(Just from my memory, didn't look up Wikipedia or anything just to correct you..) ;)

I have nothing to disagree with you there.. but for how long will they keep going back to the same setting, time period etc.? Maybe Mafia 4 would be set in the 30's. but what about Mafia 5 or 6?

Agreed! A proper revisiting for that time period one last time, but they should expand on it in every way possible, with some rpg mechanics, multiple endings, the works..
