Is This What You Were Hoping For?

With the exact release date of Mario Kart on the 3DS still undetermined, we can at least take solace in that fact that when it does launch, we'll be experiencing a somewhat refreshed franchise.

In an interview conducted by Nintendo Power magazine, 3DS producer Hideki Konno spoke about how Nintendo wants to introduce "new elements" to the game, although further details will have to wait until next month:
Now that Nintendogs + Cats is done, I've been able to spend more time and energy on Mario Kart development. We really want to bring a bunch of new elements into the game, and I'm really looking forward to the time that I can announce what those elements are. Perhaps we'll be able to talk in more detail at this year's E3 event.

Konno has previously stated that the development team will be looking into ways to balance out the power items in order to keep everyone in the race until the very end. Whatever new changes we'll see in the series, we can be fairly sure that items such as the crowd-dividing Blue Shell will probably retain its place in the franchise's arsenal of crazy weapons.[/p]

after playing the wii and DS versions, i cannot imagine what they can possibly add. Havent played n64 much but these versions are pretty much perfect.
I dont think it will be regular powerups but everything will circle around the 3d concept. I cant imagine what but definitely related to 3d.

I think it'll be either "oh no the blue shell is coming out of the screen!" ala steal diver, or something online.
    Hoping for the second.

To some degree, but on the Wii version they toned it down quite a bit. On the DS version you can get that magical orange spark a lot quicker. I've screwed up the R button on a DS Phat, Lite, and just a few days ago on my DSi. I guess that 800 and 60 record wasn't worth it I guess? [IMG]

i think it would be great if there was a Double Dash OPTION.
like there was regular racing/battle and double dash racing/battle. that would be fucking awesome.
and multiplayer could be double dash as well

    I... WANT... TRICKS!!!
Since the 3DS has a built-in motion card...
All you do is shake to do some random movement, like a handstand or flip

I just hope they forgo the trick system. It won't be nearly as fun to do trick on 3DS as it was on the Wii. Also, I'd like the drifting to be the same way it is in Mario Kart ds. If both of those things happen, I will be very happy.

Please... Dear Nintendo... Don't fix what ain't broken. Look what you've done to Mario...

He's been a painter, a city cleaner, a musician, a doctor, an astronaut... Innovation? Fine. Overdoing it? Not so great.
