Hold up. I did NOT say "planned". I said "designed".
So do you not think that after taking the cupcake, you'd be an arsehole if you demanded another, taking advantage of the legal system?

Because the way I see it, Sony dished out for the credit card replacements, then prepared some prizes and said "Sorry guys - we're offering you this. Do you accept our apology?" to what some of the users said "Yes, I very much accept those free games and PS+ subscription" and sued the company immediately after doing so. If they didn't like the compensation they were offered, they shouldn't have accepted it.

The Welcome Package was not obligatory - you didn't have to accept it, you had a choice not to do so and pursue other kinds of reimbursement.

I think that's connecting quite a few disconnected dots there.
See, this is the only reason why this "upsets" me, in a way. I personally think it's morally incorrect to ask for compensation when you have already accepted a form of reimbursement, however since the original reimbursement was not a direct result of a lawsuit, it, in a way, doesn't "count" - it won't stand as legal compensation in court so said users choose to "leech" on the company merely because they can.

I fully support those who did not accept the Welcome Back package, thinking it was insufficient compensation - good for them, they deserve to be compensated since their data was put in harm's way and the security measures were not up to standards - I'm not going to defend Sony there, they -effed up big time.

What I don't like is that some people just want to be compensated twice, it goes againts my moral values, so to speak.

This second round of compensation is designed by Sony to be an addition to the first. I mean just look at the offerings, they assume that most people taking this second round also took the first, and those people only get a catchup, not the full second round.

I was merely outlining that it's not exactly morally sound in my opinion to even demand "Round 2" if you've participated in "Round 1". ;)

I still hold that your idea that everybody is in a single group and is in on this like some big power group is false.
It's not one group, no - that's why there are different prizes for different groups. I just don't think that all the users should be compensated at this point when some already received compensation.

Hm. I never took advantage of the 'Welcome Back' crap for my PS3. I guess I get two games... I guess I can also get an extra PSP game?

EDIT: Well... after going over the forms it looks like I'm only eligible for 1 game, PS3 or otherwise, seeing as how I participated in the Welcome Back Program for my PSP. Ah well. It's not like I use my PS3 that much anyway...

EDIT2: Loaded questions about weather or not Canadians feel entitled/are too nice to file lawsuits aside, I gather from some of the comments that some people are missing the point of the lawsuit.

If memory serves Sony left the data that was taken from their servers unencrypted. This was enough grounds for the Canadian court to rule against Sony.

Sections A and D of the compensation package are what this is all about: those who no longer trust Sony and wish to be reimbursed for any damages they suffered because of the intrusions/want their accounts closed.

Everything else is a PR stunt. The Welcome Back Package offered previously was not a legal obligation. It was Sony saying "Hey guys. We're sorry we lost your data. We screwed up. Here's some free stuff. Can you please trust us again?"

The free games/themes/etc. this time around are no different. Sony doesn't want to be negatively associated with this so they're trying to put a spin on it to convince the public that they're A) sorry, and B) nice guys.

What people seem to forget is that If someone is held accountable in one country; it doesn't automatically apply to all countries. Sony's welcome back package and other help given was not canadian specific and thus this extra compensation is merely Canada going to THEIR courts to hold sony accountable for the breach. Every other country affected can also do this if they so choose as an international care package is not a universal court order.

This isn't greed but finding sony accountable for their lack of action. The fact we are getting compensated instead of the company being penalized further is what one may consider greedy if we accept those terms.

It's not that Canadians are greedy for wanting more free, Sony could take this to the court and get penalized for it, instead Sony chose to give one more game for free

I was responding to everyone claiming us Canadians as greedy for taking sony to court via class action lawsuit. Also you just reiterated my response though it should be reinforced that "This is not finalized and no compensation has been taken to keep this out of courts yet. the paper work is merely there in place in case it is taken." the compensation is not available to be claimed right now as it is not deemed suitable compensation yet.

What happened to our "friend-of-the-world" status? Back not so long,we could put a Canadian flag sticker on us and be a friendly tourist almost anywhere. But now...

I like Canadians, if that means anything.

They don't get too crunchy if you cook them at a high temperature.

Well in all honesty, you have to look back at stuff. How often do we get screwed out of stuff that the U.S gets and shit. We don't complain too much. Then this happens and a lot of people just didn't feel safe or anything like that afterwards. It's understandable really.

Just.. you know, let us have this one.

In fact at high temperature (and pressure) the carbon in our body transform into diamond...
/is shot because scientific mind

Edit:Did you remark that in the name of the claim form,it contains CFW?

This is pretty stupid if you ask me. I got 4 free games after PSN went down. I didn't even really think I needed those 4 games. It was nice to get them though. Anyway, I'm not gonna take more stuff. It's like kicking a dead dog at this point....

Correct me if I'm wrong but US users got one year identity theft insurance no? And Sony promised to come up for a solution for other countries but here we never heard anything after...

I don't know if you looked at the list of free games, it's not really a big thing, most games were used for the "welcome back" package, cheap 10-20$ games.

I'm more for the 3 free XMB theme, since I've took all the free game on the welcome back package. But do we really have to send the claim form to receive the "gift"?
