Most probable cause is linked to the speakers flex cable (either connection or state) especially if you hear a small pop noise before it switches off. Check in this order:
  • Disconnected cable (easy - just reconnect)
  • Corroded contact on the ribbon cable (easy - sand & cleanup with IPA )
  • Corroded contact on the board connector (medium - use toothbrush to clean slowly with IPA, use a pick to clean contact, very carefully)
  • Broken cable, either fully or partially (hard - buy and replace connector, tutorials exist | very hard - remove and micro solder traces before reinstalling)
For the last case, you'll need to disassemble the top screen completely, which is very tricky, and comes with a risk of additional damage. Here is the disassembly guide:
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Nintendo+3DS+XL+2015+Speakers+Replacement/73509

Unfortunately, the speakers flex cable is located beneath the motherboard on the n3DS XL, which will force you to disassemble a lot before testing.... For the old 3DS XL, it was located on top, so you just needed to remove the cover to have access.

By the way, all 3DS are very touchy about not having some components working. Some are not needed, but others are... You don't need the joystick, or the cameras to boot for example. But you'll need the speakers, the top screen (at least partially), the daughter board...

@yaum hey what if the ribbon cables have burns on them ?
Burns means bad news. Could be external to the ribbon (a component on which the ribbon lies got heated up), or internal (an unforeseen surge of current got through the ribbon and burnt the tracks)
I means that if you're going to change the ribbon, there is a high chance that it burns again, unless it was caused by water getting inside the shell, and you dry everything in.

Maybe pictures will help to diagnose.

@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways

you've seen how much intel is struggling getting into the gpu market

and nvidia is already doing ARM

i don't think they want to take more focus away from their gpus

Yeah I think Nvidia s future lays in AI GPU acceleration stuff if they can get that going it's going to be super interesting in the long term

@Psionic Roshambo AI assisted game creation is kinda already here, there was recently that AI that can turn any 2D image into a fully modeled 3D object, it's not perfect, but it's a starting point, beats starting from zero

before that there was one to generate a fully modeled scene from a 2D image

but most recently, there was one that actually generates a working unity scene with terrain and textures already set up that you can import right into unity, that's a huge time saver right there
