Nippon seems to ship either 8.x or 9.x, Play-Asia seems to ship more 9.x than 8.x.
Nippon is way cheaper( USD ~170 + USD 18 Fedex) than Play Asia (USD 210 + USD 15 S&H)

I got it from Amazon merchant JapanLovers'Choice. I paid $224 total with expedited shipping (I think it was $210 + $14 Japan Post, took 6 days).

The package was in shrink wrap and I couldn't see any signs of tampering. I've triple checked for typos too!

I've never seen a 3DS box (or any console box) shinkwrapped before. That would be strange if it came like that. In the US, they usually put some sort of tape/sticker/seal at the openings to show if it's been opened or not. Not sure how they do it in Japan or Australia. My AUS N3DS XL didn't come with any tape, sticker or seal on the box. But that could be something retailers do as a security measure and not necessarily Nintendo themselves. IDK...

Yeah I thought it was odd that there was no stickers keeping my box shut. Maybe they only do that at retail stores to prevent theft. Also prevents return fraud n such.

Bought from play-asia. It's more of a slate gray than a black, but I'm unbelievably happy with the build quality of this thing.

I noticed that for the power-saving mode option, it's the "OFF" setting that seems to have a slight tint to it, almost as if the settings are backwards. Setting it to "ON" seems to remove the yellowish tint. Very confusing.

How do you work out the lowest if some one has a lower number to yours to be older?

I noticed his serial starts with QJH instead of QJF - so it would make sense for his to be 9.1 instead of 8.1 out of the box since the QJH models come after the QJF models. Just like QAH comes after QAF for the AUS models.
