Gaming New 3DS Browser Info: No Adobe Flash!

They will probably just sell you a video app in the future that way they can make money off of it.

They originally had the Wii internet browser for a price, then they refunded people who did buy it with credit, and since then, unless I'm mistaken, their other applications (not games) for the Wii as well as the DSi and 3DS, have been free. Chances are if they release a video player, it'll be free too.

well, they did promise Netflix. maybe it'll come off as a separate downloadable client app? i think that's how 3D movies will probably go too, unless they decide to sell 3D movies in cartridges or in SD cards...

Wasn't that obvious?
Since when has netflix been browser on any platform other than PC?
Is it even browser possible on PC?

If NetFront's JavaScript/Canvas engine is fast enough, it might be enough for writing simple 3DS homebrew without cracking anything. E.g., you can imagine a communicator similar to PictoChat implemented as an AJAX webpage. Visual novels. Point'n'click games. Simple 2D games like Tetris, Bejeweled, maybe even a 2D platformer...

One problem might be that most probably, 3DS' buttons & slidepad will not be usable in 3DS browser, which means that for user input we'll be limited to mouse clicks.

Currently, this is what worries me the most; it's a deal breaker in my opinion. I have a few things that I'd like to do with Canvas, but if input isn't handled correctly, it's game over. With regards to canvas, I'm hoping that it's hardware accelerated. Wouldn't that be awesome? GPU/Hardware accelerated canvas implementations seem to be popular these days. Also, I wonder if canvas' drawImage() will support .MPO's, as we now know the browser itself will have native support for .MPO's.

EDIT:
I also wonder if XMLHTTPRequest can snatch binary files, like images, off of the SD card or local filesystem.

I agree this would suck pretty much, but for games operated with mouse only this would still be OK. E.g. simple turn-based strategy games, MineSweeper, Chess, point'n'click adventures...

Nintendo has no interest in optimizing it.

But I'm not surprised. I've decided not to expect anything from my 3DS anymore.

Same here.

There are more mobile porn download sites than one might think. Just sayin'.

The 3DS is shaping up to be, well, less than what was expected at launch though.
