Hacking New 3 TB HDD does not work

I can't get my new 3tb hdd to work using any of the USB loaders. I have not had any problems with the 2TB version of the drive, which are WD passport drives. The USB loader I would like to use is configurable USB loader.

I did not partion it. Its formatted NTFS.

im still using wbfs with wiiflow. not sure if its the same for config loader but wiiflow will only support up to 500 games on a single partition. i would at least try splitting it in two partitions im pretty sure config loader will boot two partitions simultaneously and that way you can utilize all the space

I've been down this road

Currently there is no way to get a 3tb drive to work on a Wii.

Seagate drives report a 4k sector size to the OS that allows the MBR to handle the full 3tb otherwise,
at 512 sectors the MBR can only handle up to 2.2tb

Some of the libs that let the wii even see the hard drives are hard coded at 512 sector size.

Western Digital and Hitachi use GUID partition table which might as well be a foreign language.

if your drive does still use 512b sectors (external)
there is something you could try

most drives have a partition table even if they use only one partition
both mbr and gpt are unsuitable in your case
but while uncommon you dont have to use them
create the filesystem directly on the drive and see if it works
for windows you will have to ask someone else how to do it
but under *nix it easy; see below


tl dr: try mkfs /dev/sda not mkfs /dev/sda1

gpt partitioning does not work on wii

4KiB sectors dont work too
and with 512B sectors mbr partitioning is limited to ~2TiB

only wbfs format has the stupid 500 game limit if you use fat32/ntfs you can go over 500 games as me and 2 others on the wiiflow team have over 500 games and wiiflow recognizes all of them

WBFS looked like the best way of using a 3tb drive... the seagate at least. It reports a 4096b sector size in order to make the master boot record able to handle 3tb.

WBFS detects the sector size and formats/uses the drive accordingly.

And here's the kicker: The number of files WBFS can handle is based on the sector size of the drive... 512 - 12 = 500. So with a sector size of 4096 we have 4096 - 12 = 4084 files... So a 3tb WBFS drive will hold about 1720 games.

Unfortunately it seems that there may be some libs out there where 512b sectors are hard coded in

You can't.

Just like 32-bit Vista and everything older can't read them, the Wii can't read them. It doesn't support the way that the data is stored.
