I'm looking to upgrade my New 2DS XL battery to one with a larger capacity, so I can play longer on the go, and I've seen some CTR-003 model batteries that look like they're different sizes, I just wanted to know if there's variants to the CTR-003 model or if the image I'm seeing on the Amazon listing is just weird. The first image is the one I'm seeing more commonly, it looks slightly shorter, and the one I bought is the second image, it has all the same text as one I saw in a YouTube tutorial, so I assumed it was a legitimate battery that works with the New 2DS XL, since I read that it uses the CTR-003. If anyone can help I'd be really grateful, thanks in advance.

There is no bigger CRT-003 battery. The second image looks wrong (probably image editing).

Some replacements may be advertised with inflated capacity rating. They will not perform better (maybe worse). These dishonest cheap knockoffs try to sell with a big number. Physics is not impressed by this and does not allow a higher energy density just because someone prints fantasy values on it.

If you can get a genuine CTR-003 or a good aftermarket replacement this is the best you can get without trying to retrofit some bigger cell.

Battery running time is bad on the 3DS family in general.

I also did just need a battery replacement, but thanks for confirming my question :)

If it was really 3200 mAh, it would require a thicker battery cover to fit. Extended batteries like that do exist, but may be hard to get nowadays. I would suggest a powerbank and USB charging cable, it has the benefit of not adding additional bulk to the console or additional weight to carry around when not needed, and you can use it to charge other things besides just the 3DS.

iFixit is probably the way to go for batteries. I have had some bad experiences buying 3DS batteries from eBay and AliExpress. iFixit probably sells the same crap as everybody else, but I assume they test the products they sell so you can be sure they will at least work. That is not a given with random sellers elsewhere. I'm sure none of the OEM looking batteries you can buy are really OEM. The ones I've bought, one didn't work at all and the other had poor battery life when it was new and quickly degraded into less than an hour of battery life.

I would personally try and see if the Nintendo management of your region still sells them. Remember that the Switch Pro Controller uses the same battery, so you could ask for that instead of the 3DS.

Generic batteries are honestly a waste of money. The only ones I see really recommended are from a specific brand named "Cameron Sino", but I couldn't get it on my country and can't really tell you if they're actually good or just "placebo".
