short time playing it... and there's a reason i havn't and won't play it any longer.

Now... everyone here is bad mouthing the 3d. I say that this is a very nice attempt at 3d... and a nice and fairly detailed 3d world that they have modeled. BUT... the engine runing these 3D graphics... is just pathetic. Very choppy frame rate... even when there's no other racers but your self in view.

For the rest of the game... The audio isn't too bad, but that's a minor factor. The control really sucks big time. The AI isn't the greatest, and I couldn't find a way to change difficulty atleast in quick race mode (which is dumb). And because of this poor quick race play... I won't play the game any further.

On a side note back to the 3D graphics on a GBA. I believe people reviewing/harrassing the 3D on GBA are being a little bit to harsh. Do you remember the days of Software based 3D graphics? they wern't that great... and this little machiene we all love has less memory and power then the computers that were runing the games of those days... let alone the screen resolution differance which makes a big difference in ability to show detail. I think for what this little machiene is, these 3d worlds/graphics they're producing are pretty impressive... not perfect i'll admit... and what needs to be perfected with the 3d graphics on GBA is not the look of them... but the frame rate and stability of that frame rate... and if it affects the game play like it does in this title by making the controls very choppy and not so pleasant to play.

Once again we see a flood of people whom probably just go with the flow, like sheep, saying "OMG 3D SHOULD NOT BE DONE ON THE GBA".

Well guess what? 3D was done on the SNES. Anybody Remember Starfox? Stunt Race FX? Excellent games. Excellent 3D games. On the SNES.

Supposedly, the GBA is more powerful than the SNES when it comes to graphics processing. Making 3D games is much more accessible, for one thing: You don't need to liscence the expensive SuperFX technology to make 3D games on the GBA.

What's wrong with trying? I've seen people here badmouth games just because it's trying to do 3D on the GBA, when the game itself actually was pretty good -- take Crazy Taxi: Catch a Ride, for instance. All I saw was people complain about how 3D shouldn't be on GBA and this and that, and it was actually a pretty solid game, with a pretty good 3D engine (20-25fps! That's great, for a GBA game doing what it did).

That being said, I think the programmers for this game tried to push the GBA little too far; the detail level may be high for the track, but the framerate really, really suffers. With all 4 racers on screen, we're talking 3-5fps -- and when the game is running at it's best, 5-10fps. Either it's bad programming or they really don't know the limitations of the GBA hardware. I'm wondering if the voxel resolution is just too high (for the 3D maps in this they used voxels instead of polygons) -- Smuggler's Run for the GBA used voxel maps too, but really low-res ones; on the plus side, the game had a terrific framerate (a solid 30fps) for it's 3D terrain.

Track design is a little boring, too. I tried a few different tracks and they all looked exactly alike; and checkpoints are at times, scattered about randomly. Worst of all, the tracks are very hilly so you catch alot of air -- while "cool", it makes it extremely difficult to steer your Quad half the time. Oversteer confuses me as well, there are times when I'll tap left and turn really sharply when I didn't mean to.

In the end, this game looks pretty in screenshots, and it might be better with a little more solid track design and a higher framerate.

I personally think the game is terrible, and the only decent 3D game on the GBA out of every 3D game in the release list is Top Gear Rally SP. All the rest are below standard, most unplayable

yay blaze for standing up for 3d attempts along side. i personaly think top gear rally's 3d engine is kinda blah... it's the same as atv off road & monster truck madness, and IMO that engine doesn't make a good rally engine, cause it's near impossiable for them to program a true very tight hair pin. for rally i'd way prefer to play v-rally which was a brilliant 3d title, along side stuntman. for future 3d titles I'm looking forward to... NFS shouldn't be too bad... and GP Advance looks extremely impressive, and the 3d engine specs for the DR Advance engine it's using is pretty sweet... hell it uses MAYA for it's 3d models! Anyway... this is my last post in this topic... cause this 3d attempt just sucks because of that damn frame rate.

side note for blaze... regarding overstear... only idea i can get on why it'd over stear some times is maybe the weight transfer of the quad... if it's really shifted to one side it'll react quicker or slower dependant on that... but because of the teriable frame rate it makes it very frusterating.

the guy on about good 3d games on the snes forgot that all the games he mentioned didn;t just run in software, they had the fx chip co processor thing in the cart to speed things up.

I blame sheep like buyers on forcing companies to try and make games 3d as many people won't touch anything that is in 2d.

in a way the market gets what the market deserves, its why FIFA outsells Pro Evo every year on the PS2.

I didn't forget the Super FX.

Dare I say I spent more time playing Catch a Ride than I have playing Crazy Taxi 2 on my Dreamcast.

Well, from what I've heard from my parents, he had a seizure last night, perhaps an epileptic episode, fucking died, had a near death experience, my dad called the paramedics, they showed up, took him to the hospital, and he woke up covered in tubes, and started complaining.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
He couldn't eat until after his MRI, when he had a bomb pop.
