I'm looking to buy and android tablet for my wife and I'm unsure what's the best one to buy. I'd like to spend around 300$ give or take. I'd like it have access to the google android market not some shit chinese knock off. Also would like it to be rootable. I was looking at a few on amazon but there are just so many to look thru and I'm hoping that the community here can give me some input. She don't really need it for much mostly Facebook, ereader, maybe a movie here an there, and some games maybe for my son to play for when she takes him to the doctor or something.

If you can live with an 8-inch tablet instead of a 10 inch, take a look at the Archos 80 G9. $300 with very good specs for the price. While its not rootable now, a way to gain root has been found but just not released. Only thing to keep in mind is that Archos doesnt have a good track record with software updates.

Here are a few that I've been looking at lenovo IdeaPad & Acer Iconia Tab .

@ Jotokun do you have that Archos tab? It looks good enough for my wife, but I'd prefer to buy her one that has a good track record of keeping software updated. If I need to pay more for that then so be it. She can live with a smaller than 10 inch screen she just has been asking for something bigger than her iphone. She loves my ipad but for what she wants one for it's not worth the money. Also to be honest it does not need to be rootable she don't realy care about such things... that was more or less for my enjoyment.

motarola xoooooooooooooooom
Did you even read the first post? If I wanted to spend that much I'd just go get her and iPad 2. Thanks for your input tho.

The more I think about it I may just end up getting her the Kidle Fire when it comes out.
I second that notion, the Android Market will get hacked onto it, i guarantee it

@ Terminator02 and Cromson Ghoul,

Yes seriously, I'm just going to get her the Kindle Fire.

Every tab I looked at was either over priced for what she'll use it for or just a shitty piece of junk. My wife already has a 2nd gen Kindle that I got her for Xmas a few years back and still loves it. She's an avid book reader and can go through 2-4 books a week and when she is not reading she's on Facebook. Those will be its primary uses, but I know she'll also eventually will come and ask if she can watch a movie on it or put "x" game on it for our son.

I wish Google would exercise a little bit of controll over tab specs so that they are a little bit more standardized or something. There are just too many shitty Android tablets flooding the market and if you don't take the time to do a little research some poor schlub will end up buying a piece of junk.

Any way guys thanks for the little bit of help that was provided here. I'm just going to get her the Kindle Fire like I said. I'll probably preorder her one this coming Friday after I get payed.

Why not the HP Touchpad. Its pretty cheap too on Amazon $205 new. Or wait another week or so and HP is shipping 100,000 to 200,000 to retail stores at the end of October or so for $99.

If I can find a Touchpad for 99$ I'd probablly pick one of 2 up just for the hell of it, but I'm still going to get a Kindle Fire for her.

I wouldn't count on many of those extra units actually getting to stores as HP is still filling there backlog of orders from months ago (finally got mine friday) and they sold a bunch internally to employees in a seperate sale. So I don't think there are many left.

Preordered a Kindle Fire on Friday.... not going to be much of an Xmas surprise for my nosy wife tho she was snooping around on my iPad and saw I bought it for her. Oh well she was ecstatic when she found out any ways.

Well I know you already decided. But I would have reccomened the HP Touchpad. I bought my 32GB model on Amazon 2 weeks ago for $269. It has a 1.5GHz dual core processor, 1GB of RAM, and a front facing camera. I have installe cyanogen-mod 7 and have over 12GB of applications running wonderfully under it. The cm7 port is maturing everyday and Ice Cream Sandwich will be ported to it no doubt. But than again this is your wife and I doubt she is into this sort of thing. :P

I'm still kicking around picking one up for myself. I was just looking at them on amazon again tonight. I'll probably end up getting one.
