Sorry my bad entirely (I should not do things on autopilot). I also looks like you might be priced out on amazon for half decent powerline ethernet.
As for speeds it varies a bit with the equipment you are using, the house wiring and a few other things (some things send all manner of nasty interference back into the rings) but as fast as wifi (wireless G)- faster than your internet probably runs at and without the dropout and other fun things associated with wifi and should still be good enough for some file transfer/video streaming (point to point sort of thing- I would not try to run a full blown network on it).
