Need Help With NES ROB

Hey!

Just recently purchased a ROB for my NES, but having a bit of trouble getting it to work properly.
Basically, I set it up in front of the TV, and it responds just fine to commands given to it in Gyromite... sometimes.

I have to sometimes send a command over 20 times before it eventually gets it and starts moving.
I've tried moving it around all over the room, but can't find a good position.

Any tips to get ROB to respond to commands better?

Usually when a photo cell goes bad, though, it wouldn't respond at all. But I can get some response.

Hmm to far from them? Clean them, take them apart?

It could have something to do with the refresh rate. I tried using a PS1 light gun on a 100hz CRT and it didn't work. It should work fine if you are using a 4:3 50/60hz CRT.
