don't know. but atm my dad's laptop is just a secondary problem. the bloody router/modem/wirless is dying or something like that. first my dad cant internet anymore, the next day the wii get's nocked off then another pc. my pc is the only one working -.-"
 
Check for bugs in the electricals. They might be gnawing away at your electronics.

If you're trying to wipe a partition on a drive, and windows isn't letting you do it (from within the system, using Disk Manager), then I think you're best off taking the drive out and plugging it in another system to try and 'manage' it.

You might want to try a complete wipe (removing all partitions, then starting fresh), since XP tends to act funny when it's not installed on the C drive.

It might also be a sign that the drive is dying. I've a couple IDE drives that refuse to allow Windows to be installed for reasons that W98, 2000, XP and Vista all cannot explain.
