Hacking Need help upgrading CFW

I am currently running 6.39 PRO-B8 on a PSP 1000. Could someone please list to me step by step how to get my CFW to the most recent/effective? What would the benefits be of upgrading my CFW at this point? Is there anything my current CFW can't already do that an upgrade would enable?

Pro-C allows additional online play, local-only games can be played on the internet. Also bug fixes and such, but it introduces a new bug or two.
