Not to worry, I believe I have it installed. Holding L while powering up now instantly brings me to Homebrew Launcher. Does this mean it is installed? Also, can this type of exploit be patched? Or does it now work till I no longer require it?

You installed it! If you want to you could have the 3DS auto-boot into the homemenuhax exploit and go immediately into your particular HBL menu, but that's optional.

Also, every firmware since 10.2.0-28 has a patch that removes the ability to use homemenuhax, so don't update if you want to keep that particular HBL entry point.

You are absolutely correct.

Great. Is it still possible to access the E-Shop and the online portion of games as well? I remember reading there was an issue of sorts but I'm not sure in what situations they would come into effect. Unless it's just right across the board.

If you want access to things that require a Nintendo Network ID (e-Shop and online play, just to name a few...) then you would want to update to a new firmware... right now though I personally couldn't recommend doing that.

Ok. I only really use my 3DS to play Monster Hunter anyway so I don't really do an awful lot. Although apart from that, all I'm really interested in are rom hacks for games I already own and can play without any issues so it's not overly important.

Does that also mean, that if I wanted to play Monster Hunter X when it released and wanted to use a hypothetical English patch, I would only be able to play the offline portion of that. And if I wanted to go online, I would then have to update to the latest firmware of the time and lose the English patch? I don't plan on picking it up anyway. It's just so I can get a little bit more understanding of how this works and it's limitations/restrictions for the time being.

I'd say that you've got a really good understanding about how it works.

Have you heard of Cave Story?

I haven't no, sorry. Although a quick Google search says it's a platformer that had a remake for 3DS in 2012? I might give it a look now and see what it's like. Seems to have great reviews.

The reason why I ask is because there is a direct port of the original PC version for the type of 3DS hombrew that you are using!

I'll build a .zip of everything you need to play!

Awesome. Is it a game you've played previously yourself?

I keep googling shit so I can learn more and I've often heard "hax 2.5" being mentioned and "<9.2" as well and it seems to be related to what the 3DS is capable of doing. Do you know what these mean and why they're important at all?

Cave Story is one of my favorite games! You are going to want to put the "nxengine_libretro" folder into the "3ds" folder and the "CaveStory" folder at the root of the SD card. When it asks you to select content you are going to want to select Doukutsu.exe and once you are done waiting for it to load you can then play Cave Story!

Anything that's currently only for "<9.2" isn't currently relevant to you.

Thanks for that man. I'll be sure to give it a look. If I was to play a rom hack of Pokemon Alpha Sapphire for example, would it be possible to back up my legit save of the vanilla game so I don't lose it while playing the rom hack do you know?

Sorry, I wouldn't know about that.

It depends. Which version is it? Do you have the game card or is it the digital version? The digital version has a save file checker that checks to see if you're running the latest save or not. The game card lacks such feature.

If it's the game card version, use svdt
https://github.com/meladroit/svdt/releases

download the svdt.3dsx, svdt.xml, and svdt.smdh and put them in SD:\3ds\svdt. Then launch homebrew, launch sdvt with AlphaSaphhire, and you'll see a file called "main" under your game card. Save that to your SD card. (Pressing Y copies it I think) "main" is your game save. Don't delete 'main' from your game card, instead just reset your save in-game. To restore, just highlight "main" from where you saved it in your SD card and re-copy it to your game card.

However, if you have the digital version of AlphaSapphire, then if you try to back up your save and restore it, your file will corrupt.

Also, do not worry about my uncertainty with the buttons. It has a list of controls when you first boot up svdt

what if we can spoof 9.5 browser cia version to the latest one ?should the nag disappear?

And if you're on 9.9 or higher, how do you propose to install this CIA? If you're on 9.8 or below, you shouldn't see this nag at all (unless you somehow installed the 9.9 browser, but why would you?).
