Hello,

a few weeks ago I acquired a modded PSTV. Sadly I don't know much about the Vita Homebrew scene. I also have a physical copy of Touch My Katamari which is not compatible with the PSTV. However, I have found a patch online that should make it playable. But I'm clueless about installing the patch file. The PSTV came with a 64GB micro SD and a Vita cartridge to micro SD adapter.

Am I able to install the patch in this situation?
I also don't know about all homebrews installed. I may take a screenshot of the app directory if that helps

I'd like to link the reddit post featuring the patch but I don't know if it has copyrighted files in there.

it depends on the patch, but as long as you have the repatch plugin it could be as simple as just putting the patch files into the repatch folder on your ux0.
Thanks for the reply!
Sadly there's no folder named ux0. Therefore I suppose there's no repatch plugin. But there's a patch folder

ux0 should be the main directory for where everything is installed, if not it will be ur0.
I'd recommend taking a look at https://vita.hacks.guide/ just to familiarise yourself with where everything is on a hacked vita, how and where to install plugins, etc.
Can you show the contents of your 'tai' folder, or the config file from that folder - it will let us know what plugins are already installed.

Neither there's a folder named ur0

The tai folder only contains a config file:

# For users plugins, you must refresh taiHEN from HENkaku Settings for
# changes to take place.
# For kernel plugins, you must reboot for changes to take place.
*KERNEL
# henkaku.skprx is hard-coded to load and is not listed here
*main
# main is a special titleid for SceShell
ur0:tai/henkaku.suprx
*NPXS10015
# this is for modifying the version string
ur0:tai/henkaku.suprx
*NPXS10016
# this is for modifying the version string in settings widget
ur0:tai/henkaku.suprx

I'll have a look at the Vita hack guide, now

Should be correct. Since you remove the SD2VITA to play the catridge, you only need to put that line, unless for some reason your real tai folder is on the internal storage and won't take effect.

Didn't work. I also noticed that no homebrews work. I think the seller did a factory reset before selling it to me..

Do you know if Henkaku is running? You need that to be enabled for anything to work. I had just gotten a Vita this year and besides the official 8gb card I use a 128gb microsd with a SD2Vita adapter and once you have it all setup it works great and can download the games right to the card. I am also using 3.60 firmware.

I used a lot of Youtube videos for troubleshooting the SD2VITA adapter.

I'd guess that the exploit is working if you've got access to vitashell and can see drive locations etc.
You need to establish that sd2vita is configured correctly and that your tai folder for plugins is setup on that (as ux0, with the internal storage being ur0).

@rmorris003 @duwen I couldn't run VitaShell doesn't work. I t was giving me an C1-6775-5 error code.
But I can launch the h-encore bootstrap menu. By what the logo looked like I thought it was a parent control app and didn't consider it being a homebrew app.. my bad ^^"

After exiting it I think Henkaku is running. In the System settings app I have access to Henkaku Settings and the FW version is displayed as 3.68 変革.
Oh, VitaShell now works too.

Touch my Katamari still refuses to launch.

I'd recommend following the guide previously linked and use it to downgrade to either 3.60 or 3.65 so you can have the enso flavour of henkaku which is permanent (doesn't require relaunching after reboot).
By following the guide you'll also have a better idea of what goes where and does what - it makes self diagnosing any issues a lot easier. :)
I'd recommend reading the whole guide, but you'd only need to follow it from https://vita.hacks.guide/downgrading-firmware-(3.60)
For PSTV, I use DolcePolce Plugin to bypass the incompatible check.

https://github.com/KuromeSan/DolcePolce

I doubt you need rePatch to make it work
DolcePolce is essentially just a whitelister to re-eanble titles that rely on the handhelds features that aren't found on the PSTV... most titles can be played fine this way with a bit of configuring. But I presume that the Katamari game requires more specific tweaks, hence the dedicated patch.
If I get a chance at any point soon I'll try to install the game and the patch so I can hopefully help further.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
