Hey there GBA Temp members,

After a long hiatus of about 2 years. Im coming back to my DS, but the thing is my firmware is from 2008 when the R4 released their last upgrade. If someone could help me determine, if my R4 is genuine it would be great. Because I don't want to get the wrong WoodR4 firmware and brick my DS. I never determined if my R4 was genuine or a clone. Also I was hoping to get more memory.. so I was thinking about 2 other flash carts to use along with my r4 I was thinking of the SDSTWO and the AK2i, if someone can make a pro and con.. it would be great.

Thanks GBATEMP!

If the website on your R4 says r4ds.com then woodR4 should work and it will not brick your DS.

Running Wood won't brick your cart, it's not mean like that.

Legit firmware will NEVER brick your DS, even if you install it wrong.
You don't need a new card, as WOOD R4 will work fine on your flashcart.
If you really want a new card, you shouldn't get the Acekard 2i, as it wont bring
much new things for you.
You should ge t the DSTWO if you really need one.
It has 100% compatibility (no updates needed), can play GBA games, and MUCH more.
You can search it on Google and check some videos on YouTube, to show all features.

I have a budget of less than $20.. im not sure that can get a DSSDTWO.

Go for the ak2i then. Its within your budget and its a pretty good cart.

i used to go out to the recycling center every couple weeks and look at the crts and other electronics people would drop off. Usually screens were broken or severely scratched from being tossed around. Did find a good one here and there, but never anything like a 1080i widescreen crt.

Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore.

Free release can have loopholes where they still make money through ads
