I tried to be positive and open mind about this game, but tragically it looks like another shitty NFS game that tries to be Underground without being officially an Underground game series. Graphics are fine, the cel shaded graphics look neat, however, the issue is that mixing art styles end up on clashing and are rather very distracting.

The animated special effects are something I just can't stand and hopefully they can be turned off. Not that it helps much since the rest of the game doesn't look all that fun and enjoyable, but hey, maybe I'm wrong.

They tried in 2015 with NFS, then in 2019 with NFS Heat, and now in 2022 with NFS Unbound so maybe this won't be as bad.

The animated special effects are just horrible! Who thought this was a good idea?? Like seriously smoke from a burnout looking like the tires are made by fucking Acme!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. I'm all for new ideas, but the art approach taken in my humble opinion looks way too cartoony.

I read you can turn off the animated special effects, thankfully, but seems you're stuck with the cel shaded characters no matter what.

I love cel shaded graphics (just thinking about it reminded me of Killer7! :)) though they feel very out of place here as the environment and cars look realistic.

Really? I hope a mod comes to just make drivers invisible...

I can't help but feel lazy to play this. I feel like I played a million of games like that before, I mean, a radio voice, the race for respect, the progression based on money and car upgrades...

And I'm too old to like Instagram filters.

Look, the OG need for speed you play as a person that just race and don't care. The progression was your skill to try a harder race, even that there were acting, movies, rewards for winning and so on but in the end was about driving a dream car in a beautiful scenery, and not this teenager thing of "yo, you need to earn respect of the gang bro".

You talking about the Saturn/PS1 game?

As a kid, I got into the NFS series with Hot Pursuit 2. Still holds up very well!

nope, I'm talking about The Need for Speed, the original. For PC and 3DO.

the internet informs me that 1994 is the year. 1 year before the internet arrived for us down here, amazing to remember that.

But it did come out on the PS1 too. I remember playing it with my NeGcon controller. Good times!
I was not aware of other versions, good to know! I wonder what the version differences are.

I played on PC back then, this game was so much enjoyable. A proper driving game.

I guess I'm the only one hyped for this lol

My copy is still en route due to postal strikes, but it's gonna be my main daily game for a couple weeks at least.
