Hardware Need a new GPU

Was gonna mention a CPU upgrade too, as you're current one will bottleneck a newer GPU and you wont benefit from a GPU upgrade otherwise. Also, I would have at least 4 to 8GB RAM, as you're 2GB on Windows 7 is kinda low, yet not that games require a lot of ram these days, due to GPU and CPU dependencies, yet having that bit of extra room will help having some more RAM.

I figure either build a whole new PC (if you need a new CPU and GPU, then you'll probably need a new motherboard and eventually you get to the point you may as well start from scratch) or look at maybe upgrading the RAM first and seeing how that goes. 2 gigs isn't all that much, and additional RAM probably shouldn't set you back much.

Heh, I guess that's not good. Is the CPU I mentioned good enough?
Is it still just Minecraft stuff? If so, probably. But I always try and think of what I could need an upgrade for in the relative future, and plan for that. Previously I've upgraded my graphics card after a few years of waiting, and I only got a minimal jump, thinking the price was good. The card ended up being pretty dependable, but I also swapped it out a year or so later, realizing it wasn't that great of a jump for the price I paid.

But I understand not everyone has the means or the money to get hardware like that. I was at the store the other day and I saw a bunch of meat, some with mroe fat for like $8, and some with a lot less for $10. It struck me that most people would think the $2 difference isn't anything big for better meat, but then again, some people don't have $2 to spare. Or would rather get a bunch of brussels sprouts and meat for that same price.

So if you know for sure what you're wanting to buy, and why you're wanting to buy it (if there just one thing you want it to do, or are you looking to more games/things in the future?), that will help us help you :)

Well, minecraft is the main reason and also pc lagging sometimes where I need to restart. I wonder if that's the CPU's fault... Probably less RAM Space.
Maybe Assassin's Creed, Watchdogs? Is that enough for this CPU? Or do I need a better one? Thanks for the post. A nice short read. ^_^

Watchdogs, from the little I've heard of it, will be beyond your means:
Minimum
  • Supported OS: Windows Vista SP2 64bit, Windows 7 SP1 64bit, Windows 8 64bit
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 @ 2.66Ghz or AMD Phenom II X4 940 @ 3.0Ghz
  • RAM: 6 GB
  • Video Card: 1024 VRAM DirectX 11 with Shader Model 5.0 (see supported list)
  • Sound Card: DirectX 9 compatible Sound Card
  • This product supports 64-bit operating systems ONLY
Minecraft, on the other hand, shouldn't be a problem with that Core i3. Might not run amazingly fast, but that's not necessarily due to the hardware.

Ah...!
Welp, I guess cheap isn't the way after all. Could anyone recommend me a fair price for a CPU?

That i3 would be enough, I have an Intel i3 2100 in my desktop and gaming is no problem for me. Even so, I would still upgrade that to an i5 instead of the i3 if you have the money.

Speaking of money, what is your budget exactly? For $230 USD you can get an Intel i5 3570K (or for $20 less, just the 3570). But skimming above it seems you need a GPU as well. You could always go for an oldish card like the GTX 650 Ti for around $150 USD, that should give you enough power with the i5 to play Watchdogs/Assassins Creed and such at medium-high/medium settings. nVidia just released the GTX 750 Ti as well, it's supposed to have similar performance to the GTX 650 Ti for the same price.

Tomorrow I'll be receiving the last shipment of parts for a computer I'm building for a friend (on his budget). It includes an i5-4670K and GTX 750 Ti. I can tell you how it performs once I've finished setting it up - if it helps.

But anyway, what you can do with your PC depends on what kind of budget you can put into it. Cheap, half-hearted builds won't be playing games at the highest settings, but the right set of cheap parts will at least run games. Mid-range systems will have a much easier time gaming and in the long run (as in, the space between each upgrade cycle) can be very cost effective, although they won't really be suitable for more specialised needs (multi-monitors, large displays, animation, etc).
We can help you look for good parts for your need, but a specific budget and a website you're happy to order from (I assume in Sri Lankan Rupees) would go a long way towards giving you the specific advice you're looking for. Might also help to know more about what you need your PC to do (aside from play Watchdogs, which is a game that's supposed to push even high end systems in terms of scale).

Ah I see. Let's say max $300 for a CPU for starters I think. That should be enough for i5 :P

Well I think I would be going with i5-4670K (the one you got). It's a good CPU.
Do you know a site with fair international shipping prices which sells this?

Jiehfeng, I know this really good computer store in Sri Lanka. It's called: Red Line Gaming. It's in Majestic City. I'm sure the prices there will be cheaper than what you would get from any online shop. I also will recommend the Nvidia GT630 for you, I use and with optifine I used to get 45+ FPS on high settings.

I don't think I'll overclock. Thanks for the tip!

Didn't we tell you to buy a used Xbox 360 before? you can play watch dogs and minecraft on that lol. It would be so much better than building a crappy computer.

I don't want to be mean but unless you want to spend more money, you will not really get performance you want out of this. You really should just buy a cheap used slim or super slim 360.

Oh I'll make sure I'll check it out. Thanks man!

Heh, I like PC gaming better sorry. I have a Wii U already so I don't need an Xbox.
PC is all rounded so I like it more. And I will get a good PC. I'm starting off with an i5 like I said in the before posts.
