I have used AVG, Avast, NOD32 without success from getting some infections (the most annoying being the Google redirect). After my last format a few days ago I have been trying Avira and it has detected many more things than any of the others (which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on what you are doing

Actually no, lol. Yes there are some AV companies that do blacklist their keys and at the moment the only one i've run into (which was ages ago back when choosing an AV) is Kaspersky, they blacklist keys so much it's ridiculous.

Now others (more in area of NOD32) probably do or they might not i don't really know because you can find loads of unuased keys around and if maybe 1 or 2 people use the key it's like have it on 2-3 pcs and they might not do anything, or it might be that they just don't blacklist.

You can go to their website and download the free trial version (which has no viruses or anything) and apply your legit key without downloading keygens or cracks etc.

The only AV i pirated was ESET NOD32. It was because of curiosity and not because it was bad.

I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that Trend is a real pig. It no longer seems to have a great real-life detection rate, and it's a little bloated. Plus, it gets hooks in everything.

Kaspersky and NOD are great, as are Avast and Avira. Avira is a little paranoid, but given the downloading habits of the greater part of GBAtemp, I can't help but think that's a good thing. Given the choice of paid AVs, I'd go with ESET, but it's also a lot more expensive than Kaspersky.

For what it's worth, you can just keep using Kaspersky 2009. The only downside is that it won't update its definitions any further, so you'll be vulnerable to any new virii/methods created after the last update.

Also, for what it's worth, 90% of all sites that offer cracks/keygens/serials are infested. It's not just the sites either, but the bucketful of un-moderated advertisements that try infecting your computer whilst you use them. It's one of many reasons why it just doesn't pay to pirate your AV.

Hmm... I got an auto-email from one of the big suppliers but can't remember which one it was (buy.com, newegg, etc) and it had a 1 PC verion of Norton 360 for 8.99USD (after instant savings IIRC) but I can't find it now. :/
