After seeing several instructional videos on the web I went after replacing my kids broken case for nds lite. Everything went fine until my test run towards the end when I turn it on my top screen stays white (nothing on it) while the bottom screen works 100%. The audio works 100%. I even went as far as testing with my acekard 2i and played a couple minutes of mario kart with a top white screen. Now I have gone back and tried redoing the main ribbon cable; flipping the lever and reinserting a few times with same results. This is the second one Ive done now and the first one worked perfectly. I thought I was some kind of tech guy but now thats out the window on number 2 here. Does the top screen just need replacing or am I now just out of my league. Id hate to buy a new screen and get the same results. At that point it would have just been alot easier to buy a new (used) ds lite. Please help and thanks to all who try in advance.

Its either not inserted correctly, or the ribbon cable is damaged.. you have to be careful with the ribbon cable on the top screen.

If that ribbon cable is no good then a new top screen wont do it then right? I would need the bottom screen part? Thanks. Also I did notice when I put it in the little door did not close easily. However when it did close it really looks like its in there good. Again, thanks.

Try getting a brush cleaning the ribon cable head where it plugs in. Other than that, all I can say is that your ribbon cables fucked.

The ribbon cable as in the brownish cable that attaches to the screen. They cannot be replaced on a DS lite, so a new TOP screen needs to be replaced since your TOP one is white. Not sure what you are talking about the bottom one for.

If you move the cable to a certain position it may work.. but won't do any good in the long run as the top ribbon moves a bit since there is a hinge. Try cleaning the ribbon like stated above.. and when the door dont fit right, it may of been because the cable wasn't in exactly right, shouldn't of damage the anything though... well maybe the ribbon cable.

as the others have stated, the flexible cable for the top display is kind of delicate. you need to make sure that when you thread it through the hole in the top half of the shell that you do not crease it in any way. additionally, when fishing it through the slot in the top half of the lower shell, not to pinch or crease it there either.

lastly, when attaching it to the connector on the main board, unless you have tiny fingers, you might find it easier to use a set of smooth needle nose pliers and a gentle touch. because there are many traces running along that lines of the flexible cable, damaging even a single one can render the top screen unusable.
