nds-bootstrap:

Thanks to the work of ahezard, Gericom, Apache, Robz8, _catcatcat, and shutterbug2000 and other contributors, we can now load NDS games from the SD card, without any flashcard/SLOT-1 card.

Don't expect high compatibility, but do expect many, many updates.

You should update nds-bootstrap and TWLoader, make sure MKDS is USA region also try using
the "force use" option to play Kirby, or download/dump the game again

I messed up on the Version number. I have 5.5.0 and I did manage to get it working after all.

Fixes a long-standing bug that prevented games such as Dokapon Journey, Contra 4, Megaman Starforce, Chrono Trigger (which still will need to be patched because AP) and more from working!

M&L BIS no longer has a "red screen of death" and some sound is off but i tend to expect that. but when actually starting a new save it freezes on a black screen. so far i see major improvements (you do need a ntr cart for it to run or it will force you to restart the system)
