Haha. Well. I've had some time to work on my solder points. I suppose that if anything, at least I sharpening my soldering skills a bit. I still haven't given up. I will be back on a few days. Maybe sooner if I feel the itch. Right now I'm playing some Zelda.

Just curious if anyone in the USA would be willing to install a NAND flasher to my 3DS XL. I'll pay shipping both ways, and if you want me to reimburse you for your time I'll consider that too.

I don't know how to solder or I'd do it myself.

I would really love if somebody could do it like in this video:


So that the battery cover will go on and be flush to the system. The goal is that I don't want it to be noticeable from the outside, or when the battery cover is on. (I know some people use connectors that are too big so it creates a bulge where the plug is)

If I can find a source for adapters, I'd be willing to do this install for you and anybody else that's interested. Just want to get a lot of the same one so I'm not constantly having to see if they would work.

It seems a bit big, being 2.1cm long, but I'm not really sure what sort of plug you guys are using. I've seen some pictures of them mounted sideways - basically my goal is to get something undetectable when the battery cover is on. I don't want a bulge there or some other silly problem with the battery cover being on. I know in that video, you can see the small connector works perfectly, but I'm not sure where you'd find something that tiny. Any help?

The adaptor is freaking huge, you can find those on a 4 pin fan. You might want to use something smaller.

Where were you putting the micro USB though? Remember what I said, I don't want it to be visible once the battery cover is on. So I don't want to do that tactic of chopping up the part where a wrist strap would go.

Yeah, I thought that connector looked way too big. What do you suggest? Something with not much space taken up "under the hood" would probably work, though I don't know where you'd get such a thing.

cutting plastics doesn't always look nice, and makes lot of plastic dirts.

I still haven't soldered my Normal 3DS, I don't have any tools to open/cut/solder. (I don't even have a small screwdriver)

This is a hardware mod, you use the same program to dump and write to and from the the NAND.

Do you really need a guide on pressing 1 button?

Hmm, I want it to be invisible though, so it has to go under the battery cover. Also, I have an XL, those are tighter on space than the original 3DS supposedly.

Would that MH100 work?

I never saw that WinDisk32 is used to DUMP. So.... I only saw a Guide you need connect 4 Cables with a SD Card.

Well, what I am getting at is the *depth* of the pins, not the length/width.

The previous 3DS XL I had a NAND flasher installed in (no offense to the guy who did it), he used a connector that was pretty "tall" if you will, so that you couldn't put the battery cover back on without it causing a bulge.

Now, I see Gonzo mounted them at an angle - that looks like a solid solution, however the little piece of plastic that covers the motherboard is much thinner on the XL and I don't know if that would work at all. (Ironic how lots of people are posting pictures of their standard 3DS mods in this thread, which is specifically for XL...)

So I guess this is a bit of an open question here - of those of you who have put a NAND flasher in your 3DS XL, what connectors did you use if it wasn't a micro-USB based one? And were you able to get it so it doesn't protrude at all?

you can if you want, you just got no guarantee that it will not come lose when you close the cover over it.

I can confirm that it is safe to upgrade the hardware NAND to 7.1, as you can still downgrade to 4.5 later. I tested downgrading to both 4.5 and 6.3. So I guess that confirms that no one-way protection measures like efuses have been blown in 7.1, or at least that 4.5 or 6.3 have no code to check them.
