My 3DS B button became unresponsive, and on top of it it's not charging. It can't be a battery issue as I just got a new battery and both problems persist. It's a 6 year old console so it's to be expected, but still worrying.

If its not the battery it can only be either the cable (and/or transformer) you use or the way the console charges the battery.

First, you could try using another outlet from your house and, if you can, another cable and transformer.
This will likely not fix your problem at all, I doubt it is either the outlet or the cable, but it would be nice to try before going forward.

Now, if it doesn't work it could be just the condition of the console for its age. It depends a bit on the model, but what I have experienced as the most common problem in this case is just that the port separates from the PCB for the poor design of the port location. Sure, there are many other problems you could be facing in this case, but they are more complex and less likely to happen.
To test if this is it without opening it, you can try charging it upside down or moving the conection slightly, if it charges for even a single second, chances are that you suffer from that problem, however, even if it was it could not charge in any way, so I would suggest opening it to see it directly, you should be able to see it even if you never seen the port in a good state before, but if you don't, try wiggling it, if it moves, it is it, but if you still doubt, you could share some photos and I'll tell you.

How to fix this? Well, you just have to solder them back, its really easy so you should be able to do it if you try, else you could contact someone a bit more experienced soldering.

For the B button problem I am not entirely sure, probably the rubber ran out? I don't know, but I guess you should fix the charging problem first before moving onto this second problem.

Hope this helps! Good luck :yaynds:

the port is 100% fine. it does not move, flex, or anything silly. No damage, nothing out of the ordinary.

I think i've found the culprit. even after extensive cleaning, the B button is hardly functional, so I think it might just be a busted shitty sensor on part of the button/battery daughterboard. it would also explain the battery not working either, something must have gotten severely damaged on that side. My new goal is to find another broken N3DSXL to scrap for parts since unfortunately my haphazard teardown of the system has resulted in me losing the ribbon cable for the R/ZR buttons :(
