my problem is that after a passed the third town(i think its the houses built in the rocks) the monsters seem to overpower me even on 1 on 1 combat. My jars and other hp items ran out quickly and also with my offensive items like dragon herb. I gave up after adventuring 17 times.

Tell us what equipment you're wearing. It sounds like your sword and shield are just too weak. Spend some time having the smith work on your weapons until you get the melding jar. Meanwhile, collect pickaxes and scrolls of light to farm the hidden gold in the mines. Start one jar each for your sword and shield; an armor ward and a master sword at the very least. Start melding all the +3 items you can find, especially if they have any effects. Make sure to get at least one hide shield in with your armor ward so you don't starve to death. You should be good to go at about +30 each, which shouldn't take very long. I went all out with +60 to be sure and found that I was a little over equipped, but better safe than sorry.

Also remember to keep a copy of each armband, staff and jar in your warehouses so they don't need to be identified again later. I would also recommend keeping a staff of stability with you at all times. They never expire. Use the rustless armband until you get you stuff plated.

If people can ascend in NetHack then of course they can pass this game without dying once. It's so much easier. XP

Yes a lot of the trick in this game is to go back and forth and upgrade your items, tho a lot of it is to do with strategies as well. You have to find out how monsters act and attack and exploit it to keep them at bay. Remember there's no shame in running away from difficult monsters in a rouge-like game.

Hey, quick question: how does Powder stack up (in terms of difficulty) to other roguelikes? I've only ever played that, Izuna and a tiny bit of Nethack. I'm just curious.
