It is the safer option. The worst you can do is let it discharge below the point of no return, when a battery is too discharged it breaks and can't be charged anymore.

mines been in it's dock pretty much since i got it day one. it's still going fine i pretty much only play in docked mode.

this is why you should keep it in it's dock when your not using it.

I not going to keep docked and on when i am using another console. eg Ps4 or playing my 3ds.

That's odd. I've left my 3DS for months with no charge and it still had near full.

I think the 3DS has a 'Safe Mode'.

That’s good because you shouldn’t keep it docked at all times. When it’s docked, it will always cycle between charge and discharge slightly and produce heat. That is bad for the durability of the battery. When you don’t use your Switch for a long period of time, it is recommened to keep the charge level at 60%.

nonsense i did it with the wiiu too it still works. it's been in the charging cradle for about 6 months just turned it on damn thing is still going strong

TBH I've had mine connected for around 4 years with brief interruptions and it also works.

Of course it still works, what did you expect? But the durability of your battery dropped as a result of this. You can measure it if you buy the exact same battery and compare its battery life with your tortured one.

As I said my switch died. Haven't used it since July. So I plugged it in to charge. When I went back after an hour.
The Joygon's light up. But nothing on the Tablet. Just black screen. When I put it in the dock. the light on the bottom of the dock, flickers then nothing.
Time for nintendo to look at it.

It doesn't have anything to do with safe mode whatsoever. For people experiencing this later on. Let it charge for a night and it will work again. It just needs a bigger charge again to turn back on. That's all it is and all it will take

You can try to start up in safe mode

Hold down the volumebuttons and then you can also pres the power button.

No joycon connection required, so let's suppose the joycons do not exist.
Press the Volume +, Volume -, and the power buttons. AFAIK you don't need to press them all at the exact same time, but you should nor release them.
Hold the three buttons down until either something happens or you get tired.

All the three buttons are in the top of the console/tablet, they cannot be detached.

Charge it overnight. Its battery probably died.
