Gaming My console is ringing in my ears!!

So my xbox has started to make a really annoying high pitched whistle when its switched on.

Its like a high resonance that is driving me nuts. Its an elite bought about 3 months ago, had the liteon drive spoofed to a BENQ & ixtreme fw put on it.

I have done some prodding & probing & narrowed it down to the right side fan on the double-fan thingy that in there.

I booted the console up when it was open, with the white airflow thing removed.... (propbably not the safest thing to do to a piece of hardware with know heat dissipation issues

) I left the console running & stopped the left fan - still high pitched sound. Let the left fan spin up again then I stopped the right fan - high pitch noise gone.

So basically, I'm looking for a replacement black plastic fan piece - I have an old one out of another xbox but the molex connector on it is different. It had 4 pins whereas the newer one has 3.

anybody know where I can get one? Anybody have a spare? Anybody have the whistling xbox issue?

cut the wire of the old (x1) fan midway.
cut the wire of the new (x360) fan.

splice and solder the wires to join the new connector to the old fan.
don't forget to inslate the connection.

The old fan is really dusty anyway so I'd rather not use it.

I;ve ordered the talismoon Whisper fan MAX. This is advertised as a "heat reduction upgrade" however it does say it will quieten your xbox too.

Im not even bothered about it being quiet, I can live with the actual fan noise its just like I said, the high-pitch ringing is driving me n girlfriend nuts! Thats what I want rid of!

there are two fans in the back. what ever fans you use i recommend they BOTH be the same.
same make and speed. varying internal airflows could change the heat flow.

for all we know it may make no difference but the x360 has always had heating issues and i'd be carefull.

I've ordered a Talismoon MAX whisper fan. Its the complete unit with two fans so airflow isnt an issue.

Im just praying that they dont squeak/squeal like the stock one in my box.

I played L4D for about two hours tonight last night, the noise was constant throughout that time. I could still hear it in my ears after I went to bed!
My fan should be here today, I'll be fitting it tonigh. If i had a decent microphone/sound meter i'd do a noise comparison before & after.
