I would love to know of any software that is a must have. I dont mind having to pay for it, basically just the best of the best for whatever the software does.

Things such as:

File converters

CD/DVD burners

Virtual drive managers (currently using PowerISO)

Ebook reading software

Music/Video software

Stuff alonmg these lines, if you have any other software suggestions that I may like feel free to post them.

ImgBurn for burning stuff

VLC for media (movies)

Daemon Tools Lite for mounting virtual drives.

There's a thread on this stuff already...something along the lines of PC must-haves.

I am reading it right now, it is very nice.

But I prefer software you need to pay for because often it is better, not all the time though

video software I gather you mean by converting to other formats? I also assume its on a windows machine.

pinnacle studio 12 (video capture and compile to dvd using timelines)
adobe premier (another great video editing tool)
adobe after effects (restoring old video)
winavi (converting avi to vob for instance)
virtualdub (free)
dvdlab (for creating nice and easy menu's)

Sound Forge
adobe Sound Booth

you can get all the adobe packages from Master collection

I'd recommend MPC-HC for playing media files, it's free and one of the best apps for playing video files. A lot of the time I find free open source apps that are actively developed are better than a paid for alternative.

To rip your music files from cd to FLAC, you could try 'Exact Audio Copy'. For playing back music files try Winamp.
