I would like to know why every one is working with stuff like mplayer? Wouldn't it be better to port Zoom Player Along with all of its codecs? That would be the ultimate choice. No lag simple interface all vids supported. I dont see why not. But i dont know any of this stuff so if im not making sense please tell me. And with some more work we might be able to stream, play from dvd, hdd, and maybe even 720p. THis is all wishfull optimistic thinking ofcourse. (DVD just as a feature i know dvd player is 15 dollairs)

Just to let you know,.

Im very pleased whit orb, its a service that reads your local disc over the internet so you can watch it on your wii's internet channel, im really not sure about the player you mentioned. All i know is that orb works great for movies, photos music etc..

Maybe because Zoom Player is horrible?

Media Player Classic Homecinema paired with FFDShow is a far better solution than Zoom Player.


As felix mentioned, Mplayer is open source and already has a strong following in the Linux community. Not to mention, it can do everything Zoom Player can do.

do not compare the wii with anthing else you know, this is a whole different system with specific features and limitations.. btw, the the Video encoder will never be able to output 720p, 480p is a hardware limitation

Everyone likes VLC, but it's far too simple for me. I like having the codecs exposed, because that's how you can get the best video quality.


Doesn't flash based streaming defeat the purpose of DVD? Everything ends up looking like it's from YouTube.

Ummm Zoom Player uses Directshow IIRC.... That will never work on the Wii, it's Windows only since its proprietary to Microsoft.


If you really dislike mplayer, then I guess another viable all together alternative would be VLC.

i used to use vlc but it became to glitchy with hd files so i now use zoom player but as iover vlc isnt bad either for nornal quality

MPC Homecinema + FFDShow is the way to go, trust me.
