I have a unpatched Switch with AutoRCM enabled and running CFW on Sysnand. Because it's quite a hassle to inject the payload each time the console is off/ran out of battery, I'll install a Picofly modchip in it.

Is it needed to disable AutoRCM before installing the modchip?

And I've read there's a risk of NAND corruption when running on Sysnand with a modchip installed and EMUnand is recommended.

Is it possible to keep the installed games on the SD card and setup a EMUnand in a file instead of a partition without formatting the card? And how to remove the games in Sysnand afterwards while keep them installed in EMUnand? So far I know, both the files in NAND and SD card are deleted when a game is removed.

Have you considered this instead, won't need to change anything file wise, and easier to mod/solder.

I just use sleep mode for years now and never an issue. I never turn mine off unless I have to when updating the firmware I just keep it docked. But if you want to use a modchip instead go for it.

Same. I did buy a RCM loader from Amazon just in case and it works great — although I hear the battery will eventually die one day. Even if that happens, I can always replace the battery, or fall back on alternatives like Rekado on Android or the classic computer injector method. By the way, suppose one day I lose my RCM loader and forget which version of Hekate I was running — will getting the latest one still work with my EmuMMC/ SD card that was set up with an older version of Hekate?

Irc, Hekate will load the newest version first, of the two versions, so shouldn't matter which version is on RCM loader.

I want to use the Picofly instead of the Trinket M0 because I already have that chip lying around. It looks like both need around the same amount of work/time to install.

The Switch was always in sleep mode and drained around 8-10% battery each day. Sometimes I didn't played games for a week and the next week only used my CRT setup, leaving the power off of the flat screen setup. Then the battery of the Switch was empty and charging it was not easy because of AutoRCM. The same happened when I was on holiday while the Switch stayed home, draining it's battery.

But, back to the OP, I end up starting over again. I backed up my saves with EdiZon & JKSV, disabled AutoRCM, restored factory defaults and formatted the MicroSD. Then I installed the Picofly chip successfully and Atmosphere is back running now.

The saves are not restored yet, it seems like you can't restore them if the games are not installed yet. That's for another day.

Having a modchip won't save you the problem of battery draining, it will still ran out of battery in few days, so even if you put in a modchip you still need to charge every few days, I would recomend the trinket m0 though since it is 4 wires, where you don't have to do dat0.

But with a modchip it's easier to get it running again after the battery is drained. Also, I can just turn it off completely if it's in the storage case and can use it after multiple weeks just by turning it back on, without injecting using external devices. In off-state it only drains about 1-2% a week. It's perfectly playable even after a month.

I didn't needed to solder the dat0 point, that's only for OLED.

My trinket m0 switch lasts over a week?

I don’t think battery drain is the common. I still have my launch battery too

20.x.x have draining problem due to the switch constantly trying to accept the new EULA, without disabling services in sleep mode is one problem, I still have mine trinket M0 one I bought in 2018.
