hey everyone

so ive been workin on this for a bit and wanted to finally show it off. im porting undertale to the 3ds but heres the important part, its not a translator or anything like that. im rebuilding the whole game from scratch in C so it runs as an actual native 3ds game

and because its native it runs realy smooth, looks like a full 60fps on a normal 3ds which im super happy about :D

it uses both screens too, the game world stays up on the top screen and all the dialogue and menus go on the bottom touch screen so you can even tap them

whats working so far
- the intro story bit
- the title screen and the whole naming screen (all the name easter eggs are in, sans asgore etc)
- walking around with proper collision so you dont clip through walls
- almost the entire ruins area, all the rooms connected up with doors
- the flowey intro (the friendliness pellets trap) and then toriel

what i plan on adding

-custom boss that doesnt really effect the story just there cuz i think it would be cool
-new dialogue and interactions with some things
-maybe a npc or two
-maybe another area if i got time

most of the pics i have are from the emulator btw, i just test it on my actual 3ds as i go to make sure everything works. theres a pic of it running on the real thing below :)

its still really early tho so dont get too excited lol. theres no sound yet, no real battle system past flowey and toriel is the only character in so far. i might also add some 3ds exclusive stuff later on like a brand new boss and mechanics that use both screens, we'll see

cant post the github link yet since im a new member here but if you search nitrocylas undertale 3ds on github its there

anyway lemme know what you think :D

I hope you realize that at this point there is an abundance of people who have popped up saying they're going to port Undertale to the 3DS, posted some screenshots, and then were never heard from again.

yea thats fair honestly, ive seen the same thing happen alot lol so i get why youd be skeptical. i cant promise im not gonna end up being another one of those people but im really gonna try not to be

its just somethin im doing in my free time so it kinda moves when it moves ya know, no team or anything its just me messin with it. best i can do is keep posting updates as i go so atleast theres proof its still going

its already running on real hardware which is further then i expected to get honestly so we'll see how far i take it :)

also just put some more screenshots of some more progress lemme know what you thinkg :D

Do you know about butterscotch?

https://github.com/efimandreev0/Butterscotch/releases

It is a GMK interpreter and is already capable of running Undertale on 3DS from start to finish, as well as a few other games

(Not trying to discourage this, a complete coded-from-scratch version of Undertale would be nice, specially if it makes use of both screens as shown on your screenshots)

yes! i have and i saw cinnamon as well the difference is that since its runninng nativly and im rebuilding all of it which sucks a lot but still is that the performance seems to be a lot better getting stable 60 fps normally not sure though till i get to more intensive areas or battles though

and no biggie im not gonna be discouraged this is just a fun project ive been working on for a while when im not busy cause its fun and yeah both screens will be usable i plan on adding things like mechanics specificly for the second screen and stuff like using the stylus for battles or something :D
