When this game comes out on 3DS. Do you think there's a possibility that we be able to back our own save up onto our PC using that R4I save dongle thingy and then going through it in HxD and try to mod the save to our liking?

If successful we could write the save back onto the game cart and even transfer the hacked save to be used on the Wii U version of the game. How epic would that be. ;)

I know it sounds far fetched but it was just an idea of mine that's been going round in me head today. I just wondered if you experts think it could be possible.

Lol, I'm pretty sure this game uses the fixed encryption method, so no. Also, if you were to decrypt it, you would have to resign the save, which I'm pretty sure neimod knows how to do, but not us or you.

I wouldn't care about item modification but to transfer my japanese save over to the european Wii U version... (which doesn't work the official way)
Do you think dumping the japanese save and transfering it to the european 3DS card (then using the eShop app for transfer to Wii U) would work? Haven't got such a 3DS Save Backup stick or whatever.

I am sorry but Monster Hunter is one of those games where no one should cheat it removes to much of the fun out of it.

I highly doubt it. Regardless I'll be having a look at the save anyway and see what's what. ;)

So, on a site dedicated to hacking and such, you're telling people not to cheat?
Why can they not enjoy the game they paid for any way they want? If they want to cheat, more power to them.

I am curious as to whether you can hack/edit saves for 3DS games.
I guess the main problem is that the info is saved to the cart and not the device (unlike say a PS3).

However Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate apparently allows you to transfer your save between the 3DS and the WiiU. So should it not theoretically be possible to hack the save file and "transfer" it back onto the cart? Basically making it accept a hacked save that's being "imported" from a WiiU?

We're all against cheating online and the reason why we can't edit anything is that everything is heavily encrypted.

You realize that Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for the 3DS does NOT have online play, right?

As for the encryption... well, I don't know hacking myself, but I have faith in those who do.

The OP is talking about transferring the altered save to the Wii U, that version does feature online play.
Saves are encrypted sure but unlike the system itself we can actually calculate it and modify it, however the 3DS won't be able to recognize it afterwards and if Nintendo keeps changing the ways saves works for each title we won't be able to do anything, many newer games just don't work with the save dongle.

And before you ask, we will never be able to obtain the 3DS encryption key as it's specific to each console plus that the sheer size of it makes it impossible to brute force.

Well, there are multiple keys. THere is a console specific, and then a sort of master isn't there? Anyways, Neimod has a way of resigning saves, but this person is never going to get his/her hands on that little secret on how to do it XD.

Strange, I was about to ask the same thing.

I was able to edit my save file of monster hunter tri on the Wii.

So why wouldn't it be possible to do the same on the Wii U save????
