Monopoly hitting the streets this fall

The Monopoly brand is reaching its 75th anniversary this year and to celebrate, Hasbro has teamed up with EA to bring the family friendly board game to consoles this fall. For the first time ever, Monopoly Streets will feature a fully 3D and dynamic environment.

Players will have the ability to see the game from a completely new view, the city streets. Gone are the green houses and red hotels, instead replaced by continually evolving buildings depending on the the economic district you’re in. You’ll also have your very own headquarters that will reflect how well you are playing. Oh, and in case you were wondering, yes, there will be a classic Monopoly mode as well.

"We’re taking Hasbro’s No. 1 family game brand and masterfully striking the balance of offering the classic MONOPOLY play experience and adding a spectacular new visual treatment as we bring the classic board to life with players walking the streets of MONOPOLY,” said Chip Lange, General Manager and Senior Vice President of EA’s Hasbro Division. “MONOPOLY Streets will bring people together and connect families all over the world by offering online gameplay through their gaming consoles. We think this unique, combined offering will bring families together around the TV this holiday season for a classic family gaming tradition they’ll remember for years to come.”

Monopoly Streets will also feature a vast online environment, allowing for you to create your own customized house rules for you and your friends. There will also be local, national and worldwide leaderboards. Not only that but EA has promised future downloadable content in the form of various themed boards and tokens.

This seems to be one of the LESS shovelware ones. If released for the Wii (How much are you willing to bet it will?) it might actually be worth 4.7GB of HD space.

This is pretty interesting... A new perspective on a classic board game. I never really played it much except for a few matches with my sister when we were young, but it's pretty entertaining. Can't wait to look a this game. But which console is it for? From the looks of the screenshots(and the fact that the site is called ps3 attitude) I'm guessing PS3 and maybe 360.... Damn.

Someone said chess, and I do agree, integrating this 3D view into Chess and other board games(with lie tweaks) would be entertaining. Maybe an Adventure-based cluedo?

Here's my reasoning that there will be a Wii version. Monopoly is a family game. The Wii is a family system. That's reason Number 1
