Hi - followed this guide and it's great. One thing though - I dont have a hacks.ini file and this means I need to reboot the wii every time i come out of an app or loader.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for this?

I installed bootmii as boot 2 before this - does that make a difference?

I've been trying to get my backup and iso DVDs to play on my LU39 4.2.
Have tried every trick from most of the guides... sh|t doesn't work.

@xzxero - i completed your 4.2 instructions down to the T + After modding.
Only step i didn't do was the optional step 7 MIOSpatcher, as i don't have a GC controller, and the optional step 8.

Tried 2 different versions of NeoGammaR7 and one R8.

Every time i load a backup disc, it gives an error "Dvd read error 1101"

Anybody got any clue? Is it the LU39 problem? Anybody got this working using this guide on a LU39?

Are you using DVD-R or DVD+R?

For those who are already softmodded and would like to try this guide to update your cIOS and whatnot, i actually recommend to update via Nintendo to get to a virgin 4.2. I mean, when it first came out, it was not recommended at all to update, only if you wanted a headache. But know with the new updated applications it's safe to say you can easily mod 4.2 wii's now. The only thing i recommend is for cIOScorp users wanting to update to 4.2 should install a clean IOS30 via DOP-IOS to avoid any problems with the hackmii installer.

I'm currently on 3.3 virgin (unmodded). So with the this recommend, I shoud :

1) update to 4.2 directly via Nintendo
2) start at the begining of the section "4.2 Method"

Could someone confirm it please?
yes.
confirmed.

Thank you xzxero, I just updated successfully to 4.2. So I'm running at the begining of the section "4.2 Method".
Fisrt step, on the screen, it displays:

...
BootMii: Can only be installed as en IOS
...

What does it mean? Could I go on?

It means you have a relatively new wii, with a non-vulnerable boot1, so you can not install bootmii in boot2. It is less safe, (less brick protection), but it shouldn't be a problem if you don't do anything silly.

As I could not have boot2, I tried to launch Bootmii via HBC and there is a black screen on my display. So how could I make a NAND backup? No change with GC controller

i used this guide before it came with a packed zip file and it worked fine.

I was asked to do this for my cousins wii and the problems started from the start.

First of i couldnt load bannerbomb, had to go to the website and download a different version (Is this guide now wrong for the version of bannerbomb or doesnt the version matter one bit?)

then i did the first step and it flipped my hbc upside down.. i looked around and it said that something about the installing ios61 step will fix it so i followed the guide to that part and im now up to step 4 but hbc is still upside down..

where do i go from here? the first guide... about 1 week or so ago worked perfectly but now im just lost

Press B to continue without IOS reload

Same here. I did the softmod a few weeks back for friends with the ld package and most of it was fine.
This one doesn't work for me from the first instruction (load bannerbomb)
Can this be sorted please? I think i'll leave the update until i know that step is working.

Are you using DVD-R or DVD+R?

Do you think media could be the culprit ?

I have used 2 different brands of DVD+R and burned my disc as "at once" with 8x or lower. Tried over 4 iso files.

You're probably using DOP-IOS (not DOP IOS MOD), it doesn't really matter, I'm pretty sure the only difference is DOP IOS MOD allows u to choose what IOS to run off of, and DOP IOS uses 249 by default (which is what this guide says to do anyway).

Here's how you fix your problem, make sure u use either DOP IOS or DOP IOS MOD to dop IOS61, Press A to select then press yes to install and no for Sig Hash Check.

Afterwards, run the hackmii installer again, using your favourite method (homebrew, bannerbomb, indiana pwns, smash stack etc.), and reinstall homebrew, this time it should install to IOS61. And you should be fixed.

I have a 4.1J, and followed your guide. It works like a charm. Thank you.

Now i have a problem as trying to play MPT. As other post indicates, I need to install cIOSv13b in order for the game to work. And that means it is a downgrade of step 2 on your guide. So my questions are
1. Will this downgrade from cIOS from v14 to v13b brick my wii? And is it safe?
2. If it is OK to do so, do I need to repeat steps 3 and forth after I downgrade?

Thank you.
