Hello....
Am new to the Wii Softmoding thing and to your Forum,..So hello to all...

Ok your Softmod tut is great , I followed the instructions to the letter and all went well..
So thanks to all who were involved in that..
rolleyes.gif

The Thing is. I ended up when i turn my wii on i get the Black screen menu where there are setting i can change etc..
I set it trying to Get the Main Wii menu to boot at the start, but ended up with The HomeBrew Channel Booting First..
I can push the Home button and get onto the Main Wii Screen..
What I wanted to Know was is there a way to boot up as normal to the Wii menu and go to the HBC from there to play my Backups.

The Other thing is when in the Main Wii Screen menu if i put a proper game in (not backup) the drive it shuts down wii
Can i now only play games from HBC...

Sorry for the Long post,.Hope this makes sense....

Wii 4.2E

Thanks.............Colin

I was concerned anout my Wii's disc channel ability to play retail games, after i had read your post. Reason being i to had used this guide to softmod my Wii and haven't used my disc channel since. but i tried it today after reading your post and my Wii's disc channel works fine.

the prob might be that one of the steps in the tutorial was not completed correctly.

about booting up to HBC, this is what you do,
1.) turn the Wii off
2.)Hold the reset button
3.)press and release the power button
4.)go down to settings and press A button
5.)change autoboot from HBC to system menu
6.)go down to save settings and press A button
7.) press B button
8.)press power button to turn off Wii
9.)press power button to turn on Wii

you should have now booted up to the system menu

Just got your newmod.rar loaded to SD card went to bannerbomb and it froze.
I have a lu66 virgin and did have a lu33 modded all the way with usb loader and everything. Sent the lu33 in to nintendo for pixel problem they sent lu66 back.

Do you know why its freezing off the bat?

wiimenu 4.2u
are you going to the right spot?

Yes, wii data, then channels, then the SD tab at the top, then frozen

PLEASE any help here.
Read the directions carefully:
Run bannerbomb by going to the SD Card menu and choosing yes to load boot.dol/elf

That's the SD menu on the main System Menu. It doesn't mention anything about "wii data, then channels, then the SD tab at the top...". That's the old Bannerbomb method.

Ya got it working that way, thanks

I am having a problem with preloader though, says

Got ROOT!
Unable to read ticket, aborting mission...

Everything else installed and went perfect dont know why this isnt going?

I can actually offer some advice! Ran into the same problem 2 days ago.

After searching around, I installed preloader .29, and then installed .30 after that. Worked like a charm.

I also got the same error. I posted detailed steps that I'm just waiting for verification on:

Can someone please take a quick look and let me know if the steps are correct?

Just reposting my issue...

Ok. I realize I'm an idiot. Was trying to format my USB hard drive so I could partition and setup a usb loader direct from it. What I did was format my SD card.

Some info: 4.2 system menu, bootmii installed as IOS, NAND backup is gone, everything seems to work except homebrew channel is empty.

I followed this guide to a T and everything worked out great. Except I was an idiot.

So my initial thought was to redownload the little started pack over throw it abck on the sd card

Now the wii starts up fine, right into preloader, can poke around the system menu, no problems. Go into the homebrew channel, and there's ntohing. It's empty, the bottom right thing is blinking, and there's just bubbles floating upt he screen.

I think I'm missing a few files. from poking around here: installer.log or hackmii.ini

What are included on these files and I assume can't transfer system to system, so what is your advice? Start the guide over?

I feel like such an idiot. Please help guys. Thanks

Thanks for your Reply Transam81

Was trying to fix the upside down Homebrew Channel,..

Use Dop-IOS and install IOS30-v1040 in place of the stub version.
Reinstall IOS61, the same version you already have, but DON'T apply the trucha patch.
Launch the HackMii Installer 0.5 and reinstall the Homebrew Channel
I think this means the HBC has gone altogether

Now I'm getting the Blue AV screen..
Wii is turning on but no screens at all...

Will try your advice with the reset now.. Thanks .....Colin

Ok did the reset at least i'm back in the Wii Menu Screen,...
HomeBrew is there and when i click start on it I just get a black Screen.
So I take it that i have Binned it,..How do I reinstall it...
Plus Bought games keep kicking of the Wii in the Wii Menu

Is there a way of taking my Wii Back to before i modded it...Would like to get it back to original State.
Then maybe try Modding later....

Thats whats confusing me. That was my same logic.

I redownloaded the starter pack from here just to be safe, and put it all back on the sd card, as well as the hack.ini file I was using for 4.2

Now everything runs as usual, except when I go into the HBC, there's nothing listed. It's empty.

Actually, thinking I formatted the SD card to NSTC or something similar... Trying FAT now. THink that might be it.

did you put everything into a file called apps?

Poking around for some more info.

It looks like it's possibly not working because of not having the installer.log or hackmii.ini on the root of the SD card. What are in these files? Assume they can't be copied system to system, and will need to start over.

Also, apparently I fucked up and backed up the wrong file for NANd. I thought it was in the bootmii folder, but apparently it was on the root. It's gone.

Since I'm at a stable state I even though it is a hacked state, I should make another?
NAND backups are 2 files: keys.bin and nand.bin. That's what you want to save on your computer for backup. You can remove it from your SD card when you do that. The bootmii folder on the root of your SD card is bootmi installed as IOS. You need to keep that in your SD card.

installer.log is just a log file of what HackMii did. I believe you meant hacks.ini instead of hackmii.ini right? hacks.ini is for the System Menu patches. http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Preloader/hacks

If your Homebrew Channel is empty you might've deleted your "apps" folder in the root of your SD card or deleted the apps within the folder. Check that out.

On step 4a

When i hit A to Install Custom IOS 202 and select IOS38 merged with IOS60, it just jams. nothing happens.

any ideas?

EDIT:

For clarity I updated my Wii to V.4.2 and was very very careful following steps 1-3. Reading everything making sure everything when threw. It's an old Wii so I installed Boot-Mii to slot-2. It's also fitted with a WiiKey (dont know the firmware). I know I don't need to soft mod but it will still be fun to do so. (trying to gain experience)

You need to install IOS223. Not 202.

EDIT: Oh snap, double post.

but step 4 clearly reads

4a] Run cIOS 222/223 installer v4
Choose IOS 249 for installation.
Install Custom IOS 202 and select IOS38 merged with IOS60.

223 is in step 4c.

hmmm

I did mean hacks.ini - my bad.

Apps folder is in there, everything is labeled boot.dol in each folder.

My SD card looks just like the picture in this first post for the 4.2 method. Exactly the same, with the addition of a 4.2 hacks.ini file I added for preloader that I threw back on there.

Does the SD card need to be formatted a certain way? It seems to me that the wii isn't reading the SD card, but that's just a guess.

Could that cause HBC not to show anything? The bootmi part of things. I dont' beleive that's there anymore. Should I try reinstalling bootmi?

This is what my SD card looks like, with the addition of hacks.ini

Now that's definitely weird as it sounds like the apps should show up. If it's not already formatted to FAT32 try that and put all the app folder in the root again. If it still doesn't work try another SD card.

Formatting the sd card for fat32 now.

Would it be possible for someone to send me the contents of their sd card to me? or at the least take a screen shot of it? Just so i can reference what im missing.

If this doesnt work im planning on starting from step 1 of this guide and starting over. No one sees any problems with that, right?
