Hi guys, I've been away from my wii for quite a while (since SMG and Brawl) and I now wanted to play NSMB. I followed this guide word-by-word to update to 4.2U and everything worked well, but then when I get to the "Modify" section, my Wii freezes at the SD Card Menu (Settings, Data Management, Channels, SD Card) when I insert the SD with the unziped modify.zip file. Can anyone help me? I'm so worried...

Here's my specs:

Wiikey (1.9s I believe)
Wii Menu v4.2U (after following first part of tutorial)
HBC (twilight hack, got it months ago)

Please helpppp!

can anyone tell me how to get ios36 available under the wadmanager installer, I have a softmodded wii (3.4E) that i thought i'd upgrade to 4.2 but during the "updating your wii" section of this guide it says choose ios36 but i don't have the option it's either ios35 or ios37. I tried installing cIOS36V10 again but that doesn't help.

Any ideas?

Another thing I presume I can go straight from 3.4E to 4.2 is that right?

As i mentioned in my posts some pages ago, Im having the similar problem, i followed you guide to the T, ran into a few small problems, but nothing major, but i still can't play games of my hard drive or even originals, keeps on asking to upgrade. are you saying that i should also use priiloader or startpatch.

zeedds suggested unistalling cIOScorp and redoing your guide, but i've read in multiple places that you shouldn't or simply cant unistall cIOScorp

Great guide.. I used this guide on Friday to help out 2 people softmod their wii. Both virgins, updated to 4.2 via nintendo.

1st Wii worked perfectly using this guide.
2nd Wii downgraded IOS15 OK but the next step of applying patches to IOS36 code dumped everytime, tried 5 times. After I select IOS15 and press A that was it.
I searched around and found the TBR-Mod and this worked for me to apply patches to IOS36.

Question,

1 - I deleted IOS254 when using Any Title Deleter - I know it should be a stub but is there any harm?

Hello, first of all thanks for this great guide. I followed it completely and was having a blast. I hadn't burned any backup games yet, but I still did all of the IOS/WAD/etc stuff in the guide. All of this was done a week or two ago. Everything was fine until today.

Now I can't run any (retail) discs (not that I've tried running any burned discs, though). Every time I insert a disc I get the "unable to read the disc" error message. I even tried restoring from my NAND backup that I made at the point in the guide where it has the user make one. Still, no dice.

Any ideas how I could fix this? Is my Wii's disc drive permanently thwacked? I'd rather not pay for repairs if I can help it.

IOS254 is bootmii so you have just deleted bootmii just install again trough the hackmii installer

So you saying reinstalled bootmii/hbc channel again, its working OK.

Can I run the hackmii via HBC or do I need to do the whole bannerbomb again?

put the boot.elf in a folder inside the apps folder on your sd card and run from the HBC you just have to reinstall bootmii as IOS

Sorry longtom1, why as an IOS?

Reason being.
I only installed HBC via the hackmii installer, didn't do the DVDX or bootmii as an IOS.
Bad eyesight when I got to ATD and deleted 254 instead of 250

longtom1,

USB Loader GX is working fine so i would have thought that meant that it was patched correctly. But one thing I have done recently is run cIOS38 rev15 Installer that shouldn't worry the IOS36 should it.

note: USB Loader was working perfectly before I installed cIOS38 rev15 Installer and it still is now.

Any ideas on how to fix it?

When I first went into ATD there were 5 IOS that were 3 digits long, they were listed from higher to lower.
IOS254
IOS250
IOS249
IOS223
IOS222

I first deleted IOS222 and then it went to IOS254 and I just pressed A A thinking it was IOS250. Once I deleted IOS254 I reliased I still had 3 stubs to go.

The Wii was 3.3(virgin) prior to me upgrading to 4.2 via Nintendo and I'm thinking nintendo installed a stub to IOS254 to block patchmii in version 3.4

Does that sound about right?

Here is a list of IOS from signcheck, looks OK to me.
CODEIOS250 (ver 65535)
IOS249 (ver 14)
IOS223 (ver 4)
IOS222 (ver 4)
IOS202 (ver 4)
IOS70 (ver 6687)
IOS61 (ver 5405)
IOS57 (ver 5661)
IOS56 (ver 5405)
IOS55 (ver 5406)
IOS53 (ver 5406)
IOS38 (ver 3867)
IOS37 (ver 3869)
IOS36 (ver 3351)
IOS35 (ver 3349)
IOS34 (ver 3348)
IOS33 (ver 3091)
IOS31 (ver 3349)
IOS28 (ver 1550)
IOS22 (ver 1037)
IOS17 (ver 775)
IOS14 (ver 520)
IOS13 (ver 273)

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
