Hacking Modded wii looking to update but dont know whats installed

I currently bought a used wii off kijiji for $20 just the wii and wires no controllers
I turned it on and it has the homebrew channel aready installed so I took the sd out off my wii and put it in this one, hooked up hd and everything loaded to the usbloader when I choose the game it wants to exit out. Is it ok to just update it to 4.3u online from 4.2u and just remod it as it would be new?

if thats safe Id rather put in what I know rather than not.

It's safer to just use ModMii, and it will overwrite any old softmods anyways. If you do an official update to a wii that was originally korean but region changed, there is potential for a 003 brick when doing an official ninty update. However, using ModMii there isn't any risk of a 003 brick.

Doing an online update would be a waste of time since ModMii updates your IOS files and accomplishes all of the good things you would get from an update to 4.3 anyway. If you're going to be using ModMii to remod your Wii, doing an online update would be a waste of a step (but you're still free to do so).
